Their popular all-you-can-eat menu lets you dine on the tender marbled beef to your heart's content. Kumamoto Kamiamakusa Matsushimamachi Aitsu 7914-27
This Western confectionary shop faces the Amakusa Pearl Line and can be identified by its orange roof. The shop sells cakes, cookies, puddings, and a variety of other confections. The shop's signature product is the Amakusa Roll, a 50-centimeter-long roll cake. The roundness of the cake symbolizes household harmony, while its 50 centimeter length symbolizes a wish for eternal happiness. In addition to the lightly sweet standard plain variety, the cake comes in other flavors such as chocolate, matcha green tea, and salted caramel, and is popular as both a souvenir and gift. The shop also makes seasonal varieties of the Amakusa Roll such as herb citrus and pumpkin.

    地元の人にここの長いロールケーキが絶品と教えて貰い、早速二種類を購入。プレーンとチョコ。クール宅急便で実家に送ったのですが、大好評でした。

    Kumamoto Amakusa-gun Reihokumachi Tomioka 3243
A long-established confectionery store founded in the early Meiji period. It's located in a residential area and sells both traditional Japanese and Western sweets. Their popular Gakidaisho-dried persimmons stuffed with bean paste with egg yolk-won a gold medal at the National Confectionery Exposition. The lightly sweet bean paste enhances the persimmons' flavor. Located to the northwest of Amakusa, Reihoku Town is a region that strongly reflects the influence of Spain and Portugal brought by missionaries hundreds of years ago. With carefully selected eggs that are separated into whites and yolks by hand and then whisked, their superb sponge cake maintains the same traditional flavor it's had since their founding.

"A candy store in front of the Sakitsu Church, also known as the ""Church of the Sea."" They manufacture and sell Sakitsu local favorites like Sugi yokan sweet bean jelly and fig jam. Sugi yokan is a traditional confection made of steamed non-glutinous rice colored red by the juice of dragon fruit. It's said that a delegation from the Ryukyu king taught the locals how to make it in gratitude for rescuing them when they were shipwrecked nearby. Made without chemical additives or flavoring, the moist and soft texture comes from placing Japanese cedar leaves on top. The specialty has been certified Amakusa Kinsei, a top-class product that has passed a stringent review process."

"A sweet shop with a green awning located right near Sakitsu Church, also known as the ""Church of the Sea."" They sell sugi yokan sweet bean jelly, a Sakitsu local favorite. The traditional sweet with its bright red coloring is made by filling non-glutinous mochi rice cakes with homemade sweet bean paste. It is said that more than 200 years ago a delegation from the Ryukyu king taught the locals how to make it in gratitude for rescuing them when they were shipwrecked nearby. The unique texture only lasts one day because no additives are used. It's a traditional flavor you won't be able to try unless you visit Sakitsu."

"A long-established kamaboko fish cake store with an over 90-year history. They still make superb kamaboko with carefully selected seasonings and other natural ingredients. Their tender ""Tenryo"" kamaboko won the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Prize at the National Kamaboko Product Fair. They keep seasonings to a minimum to showcase the fish's inherent flavor. If you eat it just slightly warmed, the flavor and texture will be even better."

Kumamoto lies in the center of Kyushu, a calm prefecture perfect for easy strolls around the historic center and lazy evenings in the natural hot springs at Kurokawa Onsen.
