The second floor window offers views of the sparkling blue sea, and the first floor has seating which also accommodates pets. Here one can enjoy Izu specialties like kinmedai (red bream) and aji (horse mackerel) cooked in a rich range of styles from fried to boiled in soy sauce to dried. A popular dish is the Ore-no-bukkake-don (my poured-on rice bowl) with generous helpings of fresh fish and egg. This restaurant which is approximately five minutes on foot from Izu-Atagawa Station is popular for their fresh seafood rice bowls based on fresh local fish, uni (sea urchin), and ikura (salmon roe) etc. unloaded at the Hokkawa fishing port. Of that menu, the most popular is the Aji-no-Tataki-don in which minced aji (horse mackerel) is heaped to a height of 12 centimeters on top of rice and seaweed. This is a splendid rice bowl that really allows one to taste the leeks, ginger, and Tosa soy sauce. Items such as the “Umi-no-Sachi-don” rice bowl with approximately 10 types of toppings and the ise-ebi (spiny lobster) sashimi are also popular. Amimoto Cuisine Tokuzomaru (Gyoan Restaurant) is located along Higashi-Izu Road in Inatori in the town of Izu. Owned by Tokuzomaru Suisan, which was founded as a fishing business, owner of fishing nets and vessels, it serves “fisherman’s cuisine” made with fresh seafood. Its Kinmedai Sanshoku Don meal, made in limited quantities each day, consists of alfonsino prepared three ways (as sashimi, zuke, and minced with seasonings) and served over rice to enjoy the two different taste without and with specially made fish broth.

Ebiman Fishermen's Cuisine is located a 10-minute drive from Izukyu Shimoda Station, right near the Kajiura bus stop. Its cuisine is made up of fish and shellfish caught in the waters just offshore from Izu-Shimoda. The restaurant serves 10 kinds of Ryoshi-meshi (Fisherman's rice dishes), in which first dipping sauce and then fish broth is added to the traditional Ochazuke (green tea over rice) so that diners can enjoy the combination of flavors. The best known dish on the menu is Tokujo Ryoshin-meshi, a variety of seafood over rice, but the restaurant is also proud of its dishes based on kinmedai (splendid alfonsino), including kinmedai over rice. The restaurant offers a private room overlooking the ocean with seating for up to eight people. The time of the last order varies during the summer.

This is an eatery in a spot commanding views of Shimoda Port in Shimoda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, where one can taste authentic cooking because of their direct connection to seafood wholesalers. There is a large fish tank outside, testament to the extreme freshness of the fish. Their spiny lobster dishes are particularly celebrated, and their signature Ise-ebi-no-onigarayaki (spiny lobster cooked while it is still in its shell) with its flaky texture and sweet and salty sauce passed down across generations demands repeated visits. The splendid local kinmedai sashimi and abalone odoriyaki are also popular favorites. Booking is required.

Kichimaru is a seafood restaurant located within easy walking distance of Kawadzu Station. The Kaisen Don (rice topped with seafood) dishes are particularly popular; they include “Red Bream Sugata-ni (fish or seafood cooked in a way that preserves its original shape) Gourmet Meal” and “Jumbo Seafood Don.” Kichimaru is able to take advantage of the fact that the restaurant owner comes from a family of fishermen by being able to procure delicious, fresh fish and seafood.

This restaurant offers fishermen's cuisine that capitalizes on ingredients sourced directly from local fishermen including translucent squid and other seafood caught that day in Irozaki Port. Guests at the restaurant, which is styled like seashore shed, can enjoy the flavor of its food as well as its atmosphere. We recommend the grilled squid and the sanma (pacific saury) zushi. If you call ahead you can order take-out lunch boxes or even catering.

This restaurant is located about a 10-minute walk from Izukyu-Shimoda Station on the Izu Kyuko Line. It serves seafood prepared simply with great respect for the flavor of the marine products from Shimoda's coastal waters as well as creative cuisine made with local vegetables. The restaurant has been using the same secret sauce to make dishes such as their grilled spiny lobster and their whole simmered splendid alfonsino for more than five decades. The richly-flavored sauce, which the restaurant has been adding to since it was first opened, was created to pair perfectly with Izu's seafood. We recommend donburi (rice bowls) such as their jizakana aburi sashimi no negimeshi, which features seared local fish served smothered with leeks, onions, and green onions over rice, as well as their set meals.

This conveyor sushi restaurant is located about 90 minutes from Numazu Interchange on the Tomei Expressway via National Route 136. Popular with tourists and locals alike, it offers the sort of fresh seafood that you would expect from a sushi restaurant operated by a fishmonger. They serve local seafood from Suruga Bay such as redfin scad, fan lobster, and raw whitebait at affordable prices. One of their more popular offerings is their daily lunches, which include a donburi (rice bowl), miso soup, a side dish, pickles, and a dessert. The price changes depending on the contents of the donburi.. Another popular offering is their kaisendon, which features six to seven varieties of sashimi served over rice. The restaurant also offers event catering services.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
