A seafood rice bowl restaurant with just nine seats at the counter located inside the Omi-cho Market in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture. The restaurant’s variety of seafood rice bowls, topped with fish bought that morning personally by the owner at the market, are popular with bus guides, hotel staff members, and other people involved in the local travel industry. The standard Kaisen-don seafood rice bowl is the shop’s most popular; this luxurious dish gives diners the chance to enjoy around 13 to 14 different varieties of seafood served on a single rice bowl. The fresh-cooked Ishikawa Koshihikari rice, specially prepared soy sauce, and seasonal seafood toppings create an exquisite balance.

This standing Japanese-style bar (Izakaya) is located on the first floor of WACCA, which can be found along the morning market street in Wajima City, Ishikawa Prefecture. They are popular for serving fresh fish caught the same day from Wajima harbor, and their “sashimi kebabs” are loved as well. There’s also the “Noto rice bowl,” which has pickled seafood and yam, a seafood rice bowl, the Sakaba set, which includes both sashimi and grilled fish, and more. Enjoy the bounties of the sea along with some sake or canned beer from 7:30 a.m. until 15:00.

This well-renowned Japanese-style restaurant is proud to purchase its locally sourced fish not only from Kanazawa, but also from Toyama Bay and Noto Peninsula. The dishes made by the owner, who was born in a fishing town and gained experience working at a famous Japanese-style restaurant, range from simple sashimi dishes to uniquely arranged dishes. The restaurant is well-known for its traditional local dishes, which use Kaga vegetables, and allows its customers to enjoy Hokuriku sake with snacks found only in Ishikawa. The well-cooked Black Wagyu beef stew is also very popular. The nearest station is Kanazawa Station.

Seem one is not welcome if one can’t speak Japanese. Encounter such restaurants over at least few occasions during stay in Kanazawa. Force to go to restaurants in the train station.

Muroya located near Takojima fishing port in Suzu City, Ishikawa Prefecture is a guest house with a restaurant that boasts dishes using fresh fish landed in the morning of the day. The guest house is popular for the heartfelt welcoming gestures of its owner and his simple seasoning focused on the deliciousness of the fish itself. In the restaurant, there is a wide range of unique local menu items including Notodon rice bowl topped with plenty of seafood, a sashimi set meal, kamameshi (rice cooked with meat and vegetables in a pot), and ramen noodles with iwanori seaweed. The guest house is a traditional Japanese building so you can enjoy a somewhat nostalgic atmosphere as if you are visiting your country relative’s house.

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago on a road trip through Noto Hanto. It was out of the peak and there were few guests - we had two tatami rooms to ourselves. A single room would be quite small...

A Japanese restaurant which uses local ingredients from Wajima. The owner's family has been lacquerware artisans for three generations and the restaurant accordingly used high class Wajima lacquerware for its tableware. The restaurant's menu is omakase (chef's choice) style and, based on your price range, you will be served a variety of local seafood such as blackthroat seaperch and other dishes. The restaurant is also open during lunch, during which time you can order reasonably priced seafood and other set meals. As a souvenir for tourists, diners are given a set of chopsticks made with hiba wood harvested locally in Ishikawa Prefecture.

"A Japanese izakaya pub serving seafood owned and operated by the Ohguchi Suisan Group fish dealer located in the Omi-cho Market Hall a 12 minute walk from the Kenrokuen exit of Kanazawa Station. The restaurant takes pride in serving dishes made with the kind of fresh seafood only a fish dealer can provide. The restaurant's signature dish is its ""Kaisen Enishi-don,"" a seafood rice bowl loaded with an abundance of local Kanazawa toppings such as Japanese amberjack, northern shrimp, crab, blackthroat seaperch, ikura salted salmon roe, and sea urchin. Also recommended is the ""Nodoguro Hitsumabushi,"" made with an entire blackthroat seaperch, a highly prized fish from the Sea of Japan, sliced thin and served over rice, this tasty dish can be enjoyed three different ways. The establishment also carries a wide selection of choice local liquors from the Hokuriku region."

"A restaurant located on the first floor of the Omi-cho Market Hall affiliated with the long-standing Kanazawa sushi shop Tamazushi. The restaurant's counter is able to seat 10 customers. The establishment is compact, but the cozy atmosphere makes it possible for customers to quickly get to know each other, ensuring that even diners coming on their own will feel comfortable coming in. The restaurant primarily serves rice bowls and nigirizushi-style sushi made with fresh seafood shipped straight from Kanazawa Port. The establishment is particularly visited by many tourists seeking to enjoy its tasty seafood rice bowls. Visitors are recommended to try the ""Tokusen Hokuriku-don,"" piled high with high quality seafood; and the ""Ikiikitei-don,"" loaded with 14 different toppings. For those who don't want to eat too much, try the ""Mini Kanazawa-don."""

"A seafood shop established 130 years ago located in the Omi-cho Market a 15 minute walk from Kanazawa Station. Striving to provide customers with products that feel like a bargain and taste delicious, the shop sells seasonal seafood as well as dried fish and sushi. Particularly focusing on shrimp, crab, and Japanese amberjack, the shop's cases are only filled seafood at its most delicious period in the season. Northern shrimp, in particular, is known as the ""jewel of the Sea of Japan,"" and the owner recommends the whole dried northern shrimp and whole dried northern shrimp with roe. Only the freshest just-caught northern shrimp are washed with underground spring water from Mt. Hakusan and dried with natural salt."

"A sushi restaurant located in the Omi-cho Market, the ""kitchen of Kanazawa,"" which takes pride in the freshness of its seafood. The sushi menu focuses on local and seasonal fish. The restaurant's sushi rice is made with Koshihikari from the former village of Torigoe cooked with sacred water from Mt. Hakusan and blended with pure Tsurugi rice vinegar. The soy sauce is a special sushi blend made from a Kanazawa Ono soy sauce base. Based on the belief that ""delicious fish is only the beginning,"" the restaurant serves expertly balanced sushi made with all local rice, vinegar, water, and soy sauce. The restaurant's ""Kaisen-don"" seafood rice bowl, topped with an abundance of plump, thick-cut seafood, is a favorite of locals as well as tourists."

"A seafood rice bowl and sushi restaurant located in the Wajima Morning Market. The restaurant's most popular menu selection is its ""Kaiko-don,"" a seafood rice bowl topped with eight to nine seasonal seafood varieties and served with miso soup and pickles. Because it comes overloaded with seafood, the ""Kaiko-don"" is served in a rice bowl about two sizes bigger than usual. Another popular choice is the ""Wajima Fugu-don,"" a rice bowl completely covered with fresh, chewy fugu shipped straight from Wajima's fishing ports garnished with rare fugu whitebait. Diners can also take home the chopsticks which come with the ""Wajima Fugu-don"" as a souvenir."

The sister establishment to the popular Japanese izakaya pub Itaru in Kanazawa, the restaurant is located nearby. The restaurant's signature ""Nodoguro Meshi"" consists of rice served in an iron bowl and topped with numerous slices of torch-broiled blackthroat seaperch. This particular dish can be enjoyed three ways-first, as-is; second, with your choice of condiments added on top; and finally, by pouring a broth made from blackthroat seaperch on top. The restaurant's crunchy hone-senbei, made by deep frying blackthroat seaperch bones in oil, are also popular."
