Kyoto Kyoto-shi Nakagyo-ku Teramachi Dori Shijo Agaru Higashidaimonjicho 295

It sells all you need to enjoy wonderful tea, with a variety of Uji tea including powdered matcha, high quality gyokuro tea leaves, and sencha leaves, as well as tea-making implements. The special Horaicha, which gives the shop its name, was based on ideas from the aromatic yuto tea served with kaiseki dining. This is also the origin of the currently popular whole-rice genmaicha tea. They also sell matured ryokucha green tea, based on the age-old idea that normal tea is a natural health drink.

Kyoto Kyoto-shi Higashiyama-ku Yasaka Dori Futa
"This sweets and knickknack shop is run by Maisendo, the Kyoto fan specialist. The brightly lit interior is designed around the concept of ""cute treats and Japanese knickknacks"" and focuses on traditional treats like konpeito candy and boro cookies. The konpeito have a very mild fruit aroma, and are a long-time favorite. They're also popular for the clear cases and packaging fitted to the cat, rabbit, and goldfish contents. The baby-safe, additive-free boro cookies and Japanese marshmallows with chick and piglet decorations are great souvenirs."

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
