"It wasn't a chestnut farmer who started making chestnut confectionery, it was a chestnut confectioner who started the farm to grow and study chestnuts. They continue to make ""Kurikinton,"" a traditional confectionery from Nakatsugawa that uses only sugar and no preservatives or flavoring. Shichifuku's ""Nakatsugawa Sweet Chestnut Paste"" boasts chestnut grains of impressive quality. There are three to four fresh chestnuts used for one serving of Sweet Chestnut Paste, and it has a distinct prominent taste that comes from the condensed deliciousness of the chestnuts. They are sold for a limited time from September to around February of the following year. The ""Butter Dorayaki"" which uses coarse red bean paste from Hokkaido Tokachi red beans and slightly salty whipped buttercream is also popular."
