    As a result of opening a new store in 1966, the Tsubuan-iri Yatsuhashi Otabe they created became known throughout Japan as a Kyoto confectionery. Today, in addition to seasonal otabe (thin sheets of unbaked rice cake), they also sell ones with various flavors besides tsubuan (coarse sweet red bean paste). They hold factory tours as well as an otabe-making class. (Reservations are required)

    今回は単にセット旅行の一環として、買い物に立ち寄っただけ、前回は自分で製造する催しだったので良かったが・・・時節柄、京都応援チケットとか云う２０００円分の「強制的に本日中」に使用しないと紙屑になると云う「無駄遣い応援チケット」の配布を受けていたので・・・仕方なく、私も２０００円分のお土産は買った。但し、持ち帰っても、家族は健康志向なので余り甘い物は喜んで食べないが・・・。休憩室だけは整っているし...

    A venerable Kyoto pickles shop founded in 1832 located in the Sendo-cho neighborhood close to Kawaramachi Station. The shop creates Kyoto pickles which draw out the maximum flavor the ingredients involved using several varieties of carefully selected kombu kelp and adjusting the number of days of pickling and salt used in line with each ingredient’s inherent characteristics and the outside temperature and humidity. In addition to standards like Shiba-zuke (pickled eggplant and cucumber), the shop also sells limited time items made with seasonal ingredients.

    四条通りから路地を入ったところにある老舗のお漬物屋さんです。歴史を感じる重厚な店構えです。お漬物の種類はたくさんあって、どれも美味しそうで迷いましたが、シバ漬けと椎茸のしぐれ煮を買って帰りました。どちらも美味しくてご飯が進みます。友達のお土産にしましたが、とても喜ばれました。

The shop is conveniently located nearby the Karasuma Higashi ticket gate exit at JR Kytoto Station making this the perfect place to pick up a souvenir. Other recommended products are their Suguki pickled turnips and Senmaizuke pickled radishes.

    A restaurant located inside the Tokyo Station building operated by the renowned Kyoto pickle shop Nishiri. The restaurant serves a variety of dishes made with Kyoto pickles, such as a Kyoto pickle gozen meal and Kyoto pickle sushi. The Cube location here also offers exclusive items such as Kyoto pickle rice bowls and a Kyoto pickle tempura and udon noodle set.

    This is the head store of Fukujuen, made famous by its collaboration with Suntory to make “Iyemon.” On every floor of this tall building they are developing shops of different concepts. In the first floor basement they are producing order-made tea, and on the over-ground first floor they are selling tea for gifts. On the second floor they have light meals that match the aroma of tea, and on the third one can enjoy authentic French cuisine. On the fourth floor is a tea room where it is possible to take part in tea ceremonies. On the fifth floor they sell tea utensils carefully selected by Fukujuen. On the sixth floor there is a space where they regularly hold events.

    This is a representative shop of the long-established Hararyoukaku, a well-known condiments store. It is located in Kyoto Omotenashi Komachi within Kyoto Station, and you can stop by easily during your travels. Here, in addition to selling condiments, the shop also offers cuisine made using the carefully selected spices. A popular dish is curry, full of fragrant spices, accompanied with chicken tempura. You can enjoy the different flavors by choosing the spice for topping such as Kuro Shichimi (black seven spice), or Ichimi (one spice), from the spices provided.

    This Japanese sweets shop located in the Shimogyo Ward of Kyoto City in Kyoto Prefecture is a long-established place that has taken part in offerings and various matters since around the time that Honganji Temple was built in the Yamashina area of Kyoto in 1483. Its representative famous sweet “Matsukaze” is said to have been created while Oda Nobunaga was fighting Ishiyama Hongan-ji Temple, a battle which continued for 11 years from 1570. Matsukaze, which is made by taking a blend of wheat flour, sugar, malt syrup, and light-brown miso, then fermenting it and grilling it in a circular pot, has a consistency and special flavor that is almost addictive and is a standard present among Kyoto souvenirs. They also carry many items for gifts such as gift cases.

Their Kyoto Pickle Parties with free wine and tsukemono (pickles) are popular with tourists (reservations required).

    京都駅近くのホテルにチェックインし、何か飲み物を飲もうとして京都駅に戻ると、どこもかしこも大混雑。京都タワーの地下に降りたら、ここのフードコートにたどり着きました。比較的落ち着いていて、連れはアイスティー、自分はミックスジュースを頂きました。優しい味で、乾いた喉にするっと収まり、生き返りました。

    ここのおぼろ豆腐をはじめて食べた時、あまりの美味しさに驚きました。 お揚げも一枚一枚手仕込みで作られていて、とても丁寧に仕事されています。 少しお値段は高めですがそれだけの価値はあります。 絶対にオススメです。
