This handmade rice ball shop in a residential area of Jodoji Temple in Sakyo Ward is a few minutes on foot from Kinrin Shako Mae bus stop. The charming exterior and a counter seat like a sushi shop compliments the simplicity of the rice balls they serve. The rice balls are each made freshly after taking your order using rice cooked in a special iron traditional style rice cooking pot. The popular rice balls are delicious served hot as well as cold. Guests can enjoy their rice balls with a variety of side dishes in the restaurant. There are many fillings to choose from and if you take out three or more rice balls they will be wrapped in bamboo skin.

Excellent food, incredibly well priced and located. Food cooked to order by the chef in front of you!

    Kyoto Kyoutoshi Ukyou-ku Sagatenryujitsukurimichichou 19-8
"Produced by Arashiyama Benkei, a long-established ryokan with a first-class Japanese restaurant, this restaurant specializes in Kyoto's traditional home-style cooking ""obanzai"". It serves a colorful ""gozen"" (meal set) with obanzai using an abundance of seasonal ingredients and vegetables from Kyoto, as well as ""nama-fu dengaku"" (a fresh gluten cake baked and served on a skewer) with a special homemade miso flavor. The restaurant also serves Kyoto's locally brewed beer and sake. The sales space offers a wide range of original souvenirs, including ""yuba"" (delicacy made from the skin of gently boiled soybean milk) and ""Saikyo-zuke (pickled in sweet Kyoto-style miso) roast beef"", which are popular among tourists."

Wanted to try this place but couldn’t find it right away. It is upstairs. Got the set menu. We got the yuba porridge which was a kind of congee almost, and delicious (instead of the rice). Fun and...

In addition to tatami mat seating, the café also has counter seating easy for individual customers to use.

Tucked away in a little side lane in Gion, not a difficult place to find with Google Map. The menu was simple, for breakfast it was either the Japanese Style Breakfast with grill fish or Japanese...

    Kyoto Kyoutoshi Sakyou-ku Okazakienshoujichou 149-3
This restaurant serving Kyoto cuisine is located approximately 10 minutes from Higashiyama Station, and allows guests to enjoy kaiseki (course) cuisine and other dishes prepared with fresh squid and fish caught in the Sea of Japan. The deciding factor in the degree of freshness is the huge fish-tank inside the shop in which swim marine animals delivered directly from the fishing grounds. Since the fish are scooped up and prepared quickly after receiving the order, both the taste and texture remain fresh. They offer a full menu with which one can sense the four seasons and the traditional skill of Kyoto, such as the Kyomai Gozen where small dishes unique to Kyoto are spread all over a basket tray. Their boiled tofu course made with tofu that is also supplied to Nanzenji Temple is also popular.

This Japanese restaurant is located on the 11th floor of the Kyoto Station Building Specialty Mall (The CUBE) in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City. Had a quick dinner here on way back to Osaka. Very poor food and for non-Japanese tourists the staff were not very helpful in terms of how to prepare the food served at the table.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
