    Kyoto Kyoutoshi Higashiyama-ku Miyakawasuji 6-361
A Japanese restaurant located along Miyagawa-cho Street a three minute walk from Kiyomizu-Gojo Station. The restaurant is situated inside a former tea house. As the restaurant’s name implies (“Rice Shop”), the restaurant takes great care in preparing a fluffy rice blending grains from Kyotamba and Omi. During the day, the restaurant serves obanzai Kyoto home-style cuisine meal sets. At night, the shop makes use of its tea house atmosphere to serve a la carte items and course meals together with choice sakes.

On Friday night around 8 pm my husband and I were looking for a casual restaurant to eat at. Our hotel concierge recommended this restaurant and he called to book and there was availability right...

Kyoto Prefecture Kyoto-shi Higashiyama-ku, wholesale town Gojo Gojo Leisure town 433
A long-established shop selling ‘fu,’ a bread-like food made of wheat gluten, from the Edo period. The shop opened in 1689, and introduced the secret method of how to make “fu” which had until then been treated as a high-class food in the palace. The shop is a traditional wooden building, but the sales area inside is a modern Kyoto-style decorated with stained glass, making you aware of the changes over time. In the tea shop “Hanbei,” there is a course menu of ‘fu’ and ‘yuba’ (tofu skin), and you are able to dine here as well.

OFU :fua breadlike food made of wheat gluten This is the special rare [OFU] restaurant in KYOTO. You can eat a lot type of OFU dishes. All seasoning are traditional tastes. You must make...

In 1885, Tempura Yasaka Endo was founded under the name Ochaya Omie. There you can dine from a menu that includes their famed Kyoto style tempura bursting with local ingredients. It's housed in a traditional Kyoto sukiya style building constructed 90 years ago in the early Showa period. This small restaurant, marked out by its red chochin lantern, is about five minutes' walk from Gion-Shijo station. The small, bright interior is the perfect place to enjoy their lightly seasoned menu, centered around charcoal-grilled treats. The dishes are all decided that day based on the manager's deals with suppliers, the ingredients available, and her mood, giving you an idea of the mood of the shop. The casually branded chopsticks were marked using an iron the manager had purified at Yasaka Jinja shrine. This shop is as much about enjoying the atmosphere as it is about the food.

    割烹料理の店です。店内は狭くて、小じんまりしていますが、綺麗で明るくて、お洒落な感じがいいですね。コースをいただきました。京野菜を使った料理が主体で、ヘルシーな感じです

This restaurant in the Hyatt Regency, a luxury hotel in Kyoto's historic Higashiyama area, offers authentic Japanese cuisine. The restaurant interior is patterned on an old Kyoto house with simple outfitting and an elegant atmosphere. It almost feels like you've been spirited away to some hidden corner of the city. • Kaiseki Tsujitome Kyoto restaurant
    Gourmet / Alcohol
    Kyoto Kyoto-shi Higashiyama-ku Sanjodori Ohashi Higashiiri 3-16
These caterers specialized in kaiseki cuisine differentiate themselves from typical catering in that the chef goes to the venue of tea gatherings with meal, tea ceremonies, and other events and prepares the food on-site. The company was established in 1902 after its founder learned the basics from the head of the Urasenke school of tea ceremony and opened and shop in Kyoto. Great pains have been taken to achieve complete harmony between every element of their artwork-like cuisine, whether it is the color and shape of the dishes and bowls, the ingredients, or the seasoning. Each of their exquisitely delicious dishes features ingredients brimming with seasonality handsomely arranged in visually appealing ways. The Akasaka branch in Tokyo has its own Japanese-style dining rooms and is popular as a kaiseki restaurant as well as for their catering.

    Kyoto Kyoto-shi Higashiyama-ku
This restaurant with an appearance that exemplifies the elegance of Kyoto serves soba noodles made with homemade stoneground buckwheat flour. It was originally founded in 1861 on the order of court noble and stateman Iwakura Tomomi for the purpose of providing a steady supply of the ingredients carried to Kyoto by the Kitamaebune merchant ships of the Edo period. The Kyo-machiya (Kyoto townhouse) in which the restaurant is located has been designated as a Building that Forms a Historic Landscape. There, guests can enjoy juwari soba (100% buckwheat soba noodles) made with high quality ingredients. The saikyozuke (grilled miso-marinated fish), chirimen-sansho (a preserve of dried young sardines and Japanese pepper), and other Kyoto side dishes sold at the front of the restaurant are popular as souvenirs and gifts. Guests can enjoy the murmur of the Shirakawa River all to themselves at the restaurant's popular outdoor terrace seats, which are limited to just four parties per day (guests with reservations receive priority).

Reservations are required to have the restaurant summon geiko (geisha) and maiko (apprentice geisha) so that you and your group can experience a geisha party. This restaurant is especially popular with tourists who want to savor a genuine Kyoto experience.

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
