    Kagawa Shozu-gun Tonoshocho Ko 405
Complex intricate alleys remain in Tonosho Town, the “Town of the Maze,” in Shozu County, Kagawa Prefecture, which were once used to escape wars and pirates. “MeiPAM” is an art project making use of the old buildings and things remaining in the town, to encourage people to visit. There are a variety of stores throughout the town to be enjoyed leisurely, including art galleries in restored former soy sauce shops warehouses, and cellars from the Meiji period. Cafeterias using Shodoshima Island and Setouchi (Inland Sea) produce, books and sundries shops, and fashionable cafes are popular for meals and breaks when exploring the town.

Had a great time wandering around to these galleries. A few tips One of the exhibitions is really dark. Wait for a minute or two at the entrance for your eyes to adjust before you wander around...

This aviation park is located a 30-minute drive from Takamatsu Airport. Jet aircraft and helicopters are displayed on its expansive grounds. From the park’s 360 degree, panoramic observatory, visitors can take in a view of the Sanuki Plain, Marugame Port, and distant Shido Bay. The runways of Takamatsu Airport are also visible below, and visitors can even watch as aircraft pass directly overhead after having just taken off from the airport. A Shinto shrine dedicated to aircraft is located in the back of the park, and many students about to take their high school or college entrance exam famously come here to pray that they will not “fall” (fail). The park also has a playground with a jungle gym and Tarzan rope, and on weekends the grounds bustle with families.

This is a small park along the edges of the largest pond ever created as a reservoir for irrigation in Japan, the Manno Pond. Along the northern banks of the pond, visitors can enjoy watching fireflies, while strolling along the gentle walking ways. The park is designated as one of the top 50 new scenic spots in Kagawa prefecture. From springtime through summer, the park is seasonally dotted with peonies, irises, azaleas, and other blooming flowers. About 30 years ago, the fireflies had all but disappeared. However, through various creative means of building a water mill, and a stream, to which the insects naturally gravitate, the designers’ efforts paid off, and now this park shines as the hotaruno-sato, the home of the firefly. The best time to see the fireflies are from late May through early June. During this season in which there are various local summer events going on, tours are offered that make for wonderful outings.

Kagawa Areas

around-area-map

Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
