This safari park is located in Takakuhei, Nasu Town. In addition to observing nearly 70 animal species in the ecological exhibits, including lions, giraffes, rhinoceroses, and bison, visitors can also enjoy feeding the herbivorous animals. Also, every Saturday from April until the end of October (additional dates during three-day weekends, Golden Week, and summer break), night safaris are held in which visitors can observe the habits of nocturnal animals. It’s also possible to only visit the safari restaurant, where you can enjoy barbecued dishes, curry, rice bowls, noodles, and more.

This is the largest stained glass museum in Japan, and it is located along Prefectural Route 21 in Takakuhei, Nasu Town. The interior is decorated in the style of the manor houses in Cotswolds, England, and it contains several works of antique stained glass from the 1800s. The chapel hosts daily pipe organ and music box performances, and it is possible to book it for wedding ceremonies.

We mainly visited the place for kids to experience stained glass classes and also looked at the beautiful building. Kids were not that interested so we felt the pricy entrance fees not worthed it. As...

Tochigi Prefecture’s Otawara City is home to the prefecture’s only aquarium. In tanks replicating the ecology of the Nakagawa River, you can see creatures that inhabit a range of environments from the source to the river’s lower reaches. The huge tube-type tunnel aquarium featuring fish from the Amazon River like the enormous arapaima and piranha is a must see. There are many interactive areas as well, including touching tanks where visitors can encounter crayfish and starfish directly.

Nice aquarium but we have been spoiled having been to much larger aquariums in the world, but a great place for a family, not too expensive and some nice attractions for the kids!

A history museum standing on the shore of Lake Chuzenji. The building was constructed in 1896 as a personal villa for Ernest Mason Satow, a British diplomat who significantly influenced the Meiji restoration, and was later used as a villa for the British Embassy. The museum contains displays presenting the life of Satow, while the café on the second floor serves tea and scones prepared under the direction of the chef of the British Embassy in Japan. Here visitors can enjoy an elegant moment of relaxation while gazing at the scenery of the Okunikko area which famed 19th century English traveler Isabella Bird loved so much.

Fully agree with Ries Dec.2017 review. I day-tripped from Nikko on a heaving bus but almost all opted for other sights. I used the boat - with English commentary - to reach the villa, then walked...
