Japan’s largest safari park, located in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Some 30 species of animals, including a variety of large herbivores, bears, and lions live lives of ease in the park’s Safari Zone, which visitors can drive through in their own car or take a park bus tour through to view them up close in an environment close to their natural habitat. In the Fureai Zone, visitors can play with and feed kangaroos, capybaras, and other small animals. There’s also a popular Walking Safari course which lets you walk the outer perimeter of the safari zone on foot (closed in winter). The park offers a Night Safari course only on Saturday, Sunday, and holiday nights in spring and summer.

From the main lobby with one sweep of the eye, you can see Hatsushima and Izu Oshima islands floating in the sea, and the large 180-degree panorama soothes the souls of the people who see it. It holds approximately 3,500 fine works of art with a focus on Japanese art including three National Treasures and 65 Important Cultural Properties. The park is divided into numerous distinct areas, such as the British Village, modeled after a medieval English townscape; the Canadian Village, modeled after the city of Nelson, Canada; the Western-style Fairy Garden; Japanese Garden; and the Takumi Village, where visitors can try Japanese traditional crafts. Visitors can travel between the areas using a bus or the British-made Romney Railway train. The park is also famous for its autumn foliage, and in fall, the leaves on the park’s approximately 2,000 trees, including 1,000 maples, change into beautiful reds and golds.

One of the unique characteristics of the garden is its use of pale roses and other flower varieties in order to better match the scenery of the nearby ocean.
