Located in Takasago Chuo Park one kilometer from Sendai Port, Sendai Umino-Mori Aquarium has 100 aquarium exhibits. The aquarium’s centerpiece is a giant aquarium recreating the sea of Sanriku, and the aquarium raises some 25 thousand creatures spanning 50 species. The Umino-Mori Stadium on the second floor is one of the largest such facilities in Tohoku and seats around 1,000 people. One of the unique features about this stadium is its lack of an acrylic divider between the audience and the performers. During a show, visitors can view vibrant dolphin and sea lion performances up close.

A six-minute walk from the Park 2 Exit of Kotodai-Koen Station on the Sendai Subway Namboku Line. This public multipurpose complex situated on Jozenji-dori Avenue serves as a center for arts and visual culture activities and also supports media-related activities. On the first floor, there's an event space with a large video screen, a cafe, and a shop. Other facilities include an audio-visual library, the Sendai City Library, and a gallery. The building itself, outfitted with large floor-to-ceiling windows and lighting tubes running throughout, has received high praise for its architecture.

Really enjoyed this building and the architecture! I think I was here for about 3 hours taking picture after picture! I mean, to be honest, the only reason I went to Sendai was to visit Mediatheque!!

Visitors can have fun meeting and interacting with friends from Anpanman, and there are also goods and food shops, a restaurant salon. The facility has a sense of security for parents with its place for strollers, coin lockers, and a spacious baby room. It is approximately 15 minutes by car from Sendai-Miyagi Interchange on the Tohoku Expressway.

Went to this musuem with the young ones, Anpanman is not very popular in the United States so my kids were not able to relate to Anpanman very much but still was interesting.

Located near Lake Kamafusa, this is Tohoku’s most extensive public park administered by the national government. It is becoming a popular sightseeing spot since it is close to sightseeing areas such as Akiu Onsen. Visitors can experience Tohoku’s nature and culture, and it is worth seeing the flowers that bloom across the four seasons. Tulips in the spring, and the fields of cosmos flowers that bloom from summer to autumn fill the park with color.

This outdoor pool facility is located inside Hotel Hana no Yu, in Nozoki, Akiumachi Yumoto, Taihaku Ward, Sendai City. The facility is open from mid-July to late August. It is an open-air outdoor hot spring pool with a water slide, and guests of the hotel can use the facilities for free, including day-use of the hot spring.

Located directly in front of JR Kokufu-Tagajo Station, the Tohoku History Museum aims to help people rediscover what the Tohoku region was like in times gone by, and to spread awareness of the region throughout the world. There are nine galleries that provide an overview of the history of the Tohoku region from the Paleolithic era through to modern times. There are also three in-depth thematic exhibitions that examine distinctive aspects of the region’s culture. The Children’s History Museum has an activity table area where children can handle real earthenware vessels and try on traditional clothing. Tohoku History Museum is an experience-oriented museum where visitors can learn about the Tohoku region’s history through hands-on activities.

I loved this museum. Ask for an audio guide in English to get the most out of your visit as its free and very informative in understanding Tohokus history.

It features a planetarium, 1.3 meter-diameter Hitomi telescope, and exhibits that let you observe the universe through models and videos. This is an amusement park in Taihaku Ward, Sendai City, Miyagi Prefecture with great access being about a five minute walk from Yagiyama Zoological Park Station. It is an amusement spot representative of Sendai, the City of Trees. The park has 30 rides from the thrilling to family orientated and more than 20 of them can be enjoyed by children over the age of three making it a great spot with children. In addition, there are various events such as character shows and cosplay costume parties held at the park which are gaining popularity. Also, at the renewed shop, limited items etc. are available for purchase.

Good old Benyland! I am a roller coaster enthusiast and it’s safe to say benyland is the definition of a Jet coaster Park:)

This is a shopping center in Ichibancho, Aoba Ward, Sendai City, a 15 minute walk from Sendai Station. It has easy access and is visited by many shoppers. The stylish eight story building with three underground floors houses many Sendai apparel-type shops and shops popular with young people. There are many fashionable restaurants and cafés, and the “Shiawase no Pancake” (Happy Pancake) shop, popular in Omotesando for light and fluffy pancakes, has opened its first restaurant in the Tohoku region here. “Sicilian rock salt caramel pancake” is an original dish only available at the Sendai store.

Some of the museum's kaleidoscopes can also be used to take pictures. The museum's short kaleidoscope making classes are fun, easy, and take just 10 to 30 minutes. The museum shop sells inexpensively priced kaleidoscopes to true kaleidoscope masterpieces."

This is worth the trip from Sendai! We were impressed with the creativity and diversity of kaleidoscopes. Really an international collection! Great for adults with it without children!

This museum is in Kesennuma City, Miyagi Prefecture is a lifelong learning facility dedicated to creating a unique, regional culture through the development of permanent and planned projects. On the first floor they exhibit materials related to their own research conducted over a two-year period after the Great East Japan Earthquake. Visitors can observe about 500 items, including 203 photographs taken of the disaster site since March 11, 2011, 155 disaster related items, and 137 historical documents. The second floor features a permanent exhibition of history and folk culture, as well as a set of illustrated panels called the Ark Diary depicting the lives of local people and how they're supported by a rich food environment.

A shopping mall to the east of and a one minute walk from Izumi-Chuo Station on the Sendai Subway Namboku Line. The mall is connected to Izumi-Chuo Station via a pedestrian deck on the second floor and a passageway below the deck on the first. The mall is occupied by a variety of tenants, including fashionable apparel shops, lifestyle goods stores, restaurants, and cafes. The mall has a particularly large selection of women's clothing shops, stores for children, food shops, and other establishments aimed at women in their 20s to young mothers with children. There are also culture classes such as workshops and seminars as well as art school classes for children held here.

Sendai Wild Plants Garden, which extends over the western slopes of Mt. Dainenji, is a botanical garden that is mainly focused on the wild plants of Japan’s Tohoku Region. Visitors can view characteristic local plants such as iris and acorn-bearing oak trees, as well as beautiful seasonal flowers. The Garden also has extensive grass lawns, and is a popular place for relaxing under the shade of the Japanese zelkova trees. A variety of special events are held in the Garden, including photography exhibitions and nature observation activities, etc. The autumn Bush Clover Festival attracts particularly large numbers of tourists, with concerts, moon-viewing parties, etc.

A 12-minute walk from the West 1 Exit of T04 Kokusai Center Station on the Tozai Line subway. A natural botanical garden established by Tohoku University in Aobayama for research and educational purposes. This is the first botanical garden in Japan to be designated a Natural Monument. The main building contains plant and animal specimens and stuffed animals, while alpine plants are planted in the rock garden and Asian skunk cabbage and similar plants can be found in the wetland plant botanical garden area. There are walking paths and a nature park at the site and visitors can go on a small hike while viewing rare plants and also occasionally encounter wild animals such as squirrels and Japanese giant flying squirrels.

Great place to see some wild and rare flowers solely depending on the season you visit. Not so big, yet interesting place to merge yourself with nature!
