- 60 minutes by ferry from Takamatsu Port. This is the birthplace of domestic olive production in Japan, an olive garden stretching on the plateau overlooking the natural beauty of the seas of Shodoshima Island. The “Olive no Oka” includes a 100-years old olive tree, interactive sculptures by sculptor Isamu Noguchi, and a gallery featuring Akari. You can enjoy local Shodoshima Island flavor with “Hishio don” and “olive somen noodles” at Olive Palace—a restaurant which also sells olive oil and a variety of homemade olive products.

- Choshikei Gorge is one of Shodoshima Island's top scenic areas, in the same league as Kankakei Gorge. You can encounter more than 500 monkeys that inhabit the valley at their Monkey Park and try feeding them under the caretaker's watchful gaze. There's a lookout above the gorge with a 360-degree view.

- Complex intricate alleys remain in Tonosho Town, the “Town of the Maze,” in Shozu County, Kagawa Prefecture, which were once used to escape wars and pirates. “MeiPAM” is an art project making use of the old buildings and things remaining in the town, to encourage people to visit. There are a variety of stores throughout the town to be enjoyed leisurely, including art galleries in restored former soy sauce shops warehouses, and cellars from the Meiji period. Cafeterias using Shodoshima Island and Setouchi (Inland Sea) produce, books and sundries shops, and fashionable cafes are popular for meals and breaks when exploring the town.

- Morikuni Shuzo is the only brewery on Shodoshima Island, and it produces high-quality sake by hand. In the gallery, they sell nihonshu with cute names like “fuwafuwa” (fluffy) and “fufufu”, local sake, masu-zake and lees. There is a café&bar as well, so you can try some sake, sweets or a light meal.

- Kagawa Shozu-gun Tonoshocho Yakatazaki Otsu 100-40
- This mikan citrus orchard it thought to have started when the Hitoyama area farmers co-op their operations back in 1963. On this hill overlooking the calm Seto Inland Sea are about 2000 cultivated mikan trees. The seven varieties of citrus cultivated for sale are the wase-unshu, navel, sweet spring, iyokan, hassaku, amanatsu, and deko (shiranuhi). Visitors can enjoy picking mikans at this orchard that is the only open-to-the public mikan orchard on Shodo Island. It is a great opportunity to get to taste the mikans straight off the trees, before market. The orchard is open every day from early October through early December.

- This beach, the Taihama Kaisuiyokujo, is on the northern coast of Shodo Island. Nearby this coastal continuous ribbon of blue water and white-sand, is a campsite. It is known for its quite, because it is on the opposite side from the Tonosho and Kusakabe ports, the entryways to Shodo Island, which face Takamatsu City. The campsite, nestled in a grove of pine trees, is equipped with a cooking area, running water, and toilets. There are also separate hot-water showers for men and women, making it convenient for swimming as well. Many families take advantage of this campsite during peak season because of its natural surroundings and reasonable prices.

Kagawa Areas
Japan’s smallest prefecture, Kagawa, may take up just a small corner of Shikoku, but it has grown increasingly popular with the recognition of Naoshima, its "art island" in the Seto Inland Sea between Shikoku and Honshu. Just a stone’s throw from the islands, mainland Kagawa’s prefectural capital, Takamatsu, holds history in its castle ruins and its pride and joy, Ritsurin Garden, is known as one of the country’s best gardens.
