Outside, the shop looks like a Kyoto merchant’s house; inside, the Western-style, retro atmosphere resembles the lounge of a high-class hotel and looks like a scene out of a movie. The fragrant, nel drip brewed coffee is a point of pride for the café. On request, the shop’s popular Arabian Pearl blend can be served with the perfect amount of sugar and milk. Open from 7 am, the Kyoto Breakfast served until 11 is one of the shop’s specialties and attracts many a repeat customer.

From teas which require a whisk and teapot to teabags, the shop carries a wide array of products, and customers can taste before they buy. The shop also provides a takeout service, making it the perfect place to stop by while strolling along Teramachi-dori Street of the Kamo River on a sunny day.     The flagship Takano location, this fruit parlor located on Shinjuku-dori Avenue in 3 Chome Shinjuku, Shinjuku City, Tokyo spans five floors. Takano serves parfaits, fruit samplers, cut fruit, juices, and fruit sandwiches made with seasonal fruits, as well as clubhouse and roast beef sandwiches. The shop also has parfaits and course menu options served at no other Takano location.

    You can enjoy Japanese excellent fruits at Takano. Prices are bit expensive. Quite casual atmosphere.

    Located in one of the Fujimi Sankei (three best viewpoints of Mt. Fuji), this teahouse established in 1934 has long been popular as a spot to enjoy a landscape of Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi. Due to the teahouse's association with Dazai Osamu, its second floor serves as the Dazai Osamu Literary Memorial Room. Their hoto noodle hotpot featuring copious amounts of stewed vegetables and homemade noodles finished with locally-made miso paste was beloved by both Dazai Osamu and Ibuse Masuji.

    This venerable café located in Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture was founded in 1932. The flavor of the coffee, which has been roasted in-house since the shop was first opened, goes perfectly with the café’s fluffy pancakes and French toast. The shop’s retro and relaxing atmosphere backed by the warmth of brick and wood is also part of its charm. A Western-style restaurant is located on the second floor; the Smart Lunch, which gives you a choice of two main dishes, is its feature menu item. Smart Coffee is popular not only with regulars but tourists as well.

    Pancakes were definitely my favourite, the sandwiches were good too but if you have a sweet tooth definitely go for the pancake! You can also get it in a set with a drink.

Featured in all manner of media, Kameju is famous for the unending lines which form at its door each day. Particularly popular are the shop’s dorayaki – soft and moist sweet red bean paste made with adzuki beans from Tokachi sandwiched between two fluffy, pancake-like dough saucers. Larger than the average dorayaki, the shop offers a white and a black bean paste variety. Popular as souvenirs and gifts, they often sell out.

    Kyoto is full of wonderful treats but Malebranche stands heads and shoulders above any of the confectionaries we experienced. The okoicha langue de chat biscuit is delicious and will delight...

    A cafe located behind the Kabuki-za (theatre) in Ginza, Chuo City, Tokyo. In addition to coffee and other drinks, the shop YOU serves cafe standards such as Napolitan spaghetti, curry, and sandwiches. The cafe's omelet rice, in particular, has become its signature dish-sometimes lines of people will form out the door waiting just to enjoy the ketchup rice and perfectly half-cooked, fluffy omelet, still runny on the inside, served on top. The cafe's food dishes are also available for takeout.

    We really liked the food here. It’s very simple but delicious. The place is very small and unfortunately they allow smoking but luckily we were near the aircon so didn’t feel it as much.

    This is a cafe focusing mainly on sweets on the second floor of the Umeda Rakutenchi Building. The poppy, cute shop interior hosts an all-you-can-eat menu of about 30 different sweets (including some seasonal varieties). The shop's most popular item, Fluffy Shortcake, uses 17.7% fat cream from Hokkaido in their whipped cream in an exquisite pairing with strawberries. Apart from cakes, they also serve pasta, salads, snacks and drinks for a fully stocked menu. Take as much as you like of whatever you like!

    Located close to exit A7 of Tokyo Metro Jimbocho Station. This cafe has been a local favorite ever since it first opened in 1955. The totem pole, retro red telephone, and other objects placed outside near the door give off an eccentric atmosphere. Conversely, inside, the cafe resembles a mountain cabin, and the brick walls are covered with graffiti left by patrons, engendering a retro atmosphere. The establishment's dim lighting helps customers to relax and forget the hustle and bustle of the city. One of the most popular items on the menu is the fresh strawberry juice, poured to the glass brim. Made with ripe strawberries and finely crushed ice, it can be enjoyed like a dessert.

    Originally a coffee specialty shop founded in 1963, in addition to a conventional menu of café favorites, Café Tanaka is famous for its sweets created by an in-house pâtissier. The café’s most popular sweets are its special Mont Blanc, seasonal gateau, and baked sweets, offered with a special coffee or cup of select tea served during afternoon tea, weekdays from 1:00 pm. Numbers are limited and preference is given to those who make reservations in advance; accordingly, making a reservation is recommended. A three minute walk from Kami-Iida Station on the Meitetsu Komaki Line.

    Great selection of lunch meals, which was finished by an excellent choice of cakes to die for!! Relaxing decor and ambience and service was very good too.
