    Yamanashi Minamikoma-gun Minobucho Minobu 3850-1
This natural foods store located along the approach to Minobusan Kuonji Temple specializes in shiitake mushrooms and yuba (tofu skins). Minobu yuba is said to have originated from tofu skins offered to Nichiren, the founder of Nichiren Buddhism, by acolytes training under him at Kuonji Temple. Their completely additive-free tofu skins are made exclusively with domestic soy beans and underground water from Mt. Fuji. Their Seisui raw tofu skins, which are lifted out of the soy milk slowly and carefully folded into layers, are their most popular product. Their domestic and agrochemical-free dried shiitake mushrooms are great for use at home or as gifts. Another popular item is their kuzumochi, a chilled sweet made with exclusively with Yoshino-Honkuzu kuzu powder.

This venerable Japanese confection shop established in 1903 has continued for four generations since the founder first created Kaidama, a famous candy of Koshu. Their Fujikawa Castelas, a perennial bestseller, are sweet and moist madeleines with a gentle buttery flavor. Their shiomanju buns feature a special shioan (salted sweet red bean paste) filling made with Tokachi azuki beans and Kajikazawa salt wrapped in a covering made from specially-ordered kyo-joyoko fine rice flour and Japanese yam. The buns are made without any preservatives or leavening agents. The shop also sells limited edition seasonal Japanese sweets.

Yamanashi Areas

around-area-map

Yamanashi prefecture is the proud home of one of Japan’s most celebrated icons: Mount Fuji. Although the mountain straddles both Yamanashi and Shizuoka, the most breathtaking views of Fuji-san can be seen from the Fuji Five Lakes north of the mountain in Yamanashi prefecture. The plethora of outdoor activities in and around the lakes all have the benefit of the country’s highest mountain as their backdrop, and we can assure you that it is an unforgettable sight.
