  • Fuefuki Municipal Seifu Art Museum

    "This art museum is located about a ten-minute drive from Katsunuma Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. It features a collection of works by Seifu Tsuda, a painter born in Kyoto Prefecture whose career spanned from the Meiji period to the Showa period. Tsuda is also well-known for the major role he played in the establishment of Nika Association. The museum's collection includes more than 500 of his works including his unfettered Nanga-style paintings and unrestrained calligraphy as well as western-style paintings, designs, and posters. The museum has about 60 of these works on display at any given time. About 30 are rotated out twice per year. Tsuda was also close friends with Natsume Soseki and did the binding for his novel ""Gubijinso."""
  • Mokujiki no Sato Bishokan Museum

    "This history museum collects and exhibits artifacts including Buddhist images carved by the Edo period monk Mokujiki as well as ancient documents. Mokujiki traveled all over Japan and left behind more than 1,000 Buddhist statues across the country during his lifetime. His works have a creative style that does not conform to traditional styles of Buddhist carving. Called ""mishobutsu"" (smiling Buddhas) for the faint smiles on the mouths of many of their mouths, his Buddhist images were widely worshipped by the common folk. The nearby birthplace of Mokujiki is open to the public as Mokujiki Memorial Hall."

    This learning center is located immediately next to the Sakana Koen bus stop. The octagonal building features an interior trimmed with a great deal of wood including wooden floors and wooden ceiling beams. It is divided into a number of different areas including an experience area and a learning area. The layout of the computers, theater, and other facilities is designed to allow visitors to concentrate on learning. The learning center is part of a facility that also includes the Yamanashi Prefecture Fuji Yusui no Sato Aquarium, a grassy park, and other attractions. The facility is a place where visitors can enjoy both playing in nature and studying at the learning center.

    An art museum located on the grounds of La Ville de Gaspard et Lisa adjoining Fuji-Q Highland just of the Kawaguchiko Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. Built to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Fuji Kyuko Co., Ltd., the museum displays works of art depicting Mt. Fuji created by various modern artists collected over a 40-year period. The museum holds special exhibitions featuring original drawings of popular French characters Lisa and Gaspard, as well as works depicting Mt. Fuji created by the likes of Shigeo Nagashima and Tsurutaro Kataoka. The museum also holds painting classes and daily crafting classes as needed, making this a fun destination for children and adults alike.
  • Kuroi Ken Picture Book House

    "A gallery located about a five-minute drive from JR Kiyosato Station. It opened in 2003. Displays include original illustration by picture book illustrator Ken Kuroi. They also have a copy of his first work ""Boku no Machi"" which is now out of print and ""Gongitsune"" which is considered a turning point of the author. There is also a workshop on the grounds and sometimes the author himself is present. On those occasions a signing event is held where he will sign your picture books."

    An art museum located about five-minutes from the Kobuchizawa Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. The museum exhibits will introduce you to picture books by popular authors both domestic and foreign and the permanent exhibit includes a photo exhibition introducing the life of Tasha Tudor as well as displays of picture books and original drawings from Western countries. Small dogs can be brought into the museum so long as they are held or in a carrier case. Medium and larger size pets can be brought into the terrace space. In the Select Shop you can purchase original goods as well as translated picture books from around the world. With free tea and coffee offered you can relax and immerse yourself in the world of picture books.
  • CMIC Yatsugatake Medical Plant Garden

    The botanical garden is a 10-minute drive from the Kobuchisawa Interchange on the Chuo Expressway, and is affiliated with the Yamanashi Prefectural Forestry Research Institute. The garden is also open to the public, and visitors can learn how to identify and use wild plants and how to cook herbs, and other hands-on classes are held to deepen visitors' knowledge of medicinal plants.

    An art museum located a five-minute drive from the Kobuchisawa Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. The museum displays a variety of artworks created based on the theme of peace. The museum's standing exhibition includes sculptures by Kathe Kollwitz and copperplate engravings by Mieczyslaw Koscielniak. The museum also holds special exhibitions several times a year featuring works by artists such as Sadao Watanabe and Kimiko Shikama. A pipe organ is located in exhibition room one which is used for performances and other events. There's also a coffee room where visitors can take a quiet break.
  • Yatsugatake Taiun Calligraphy Art Museum

    "A five-minute walk from Kai-Koizumi Station. Standing in the middle of a forest, this art museum has a round Chinese gate and three distinctive round windows representing the sun, moon, and Earth. The museum displays from four to 50 pieces of a roughly 2,000-piece collection primarily consisting of works by Taiun Yanagida, the third generation of a family of calligraphers which includes Tairoku Yanagida and late Edo-period Confucian calligrapher Yanagida Shosai. Highlights include highly artistic konshi-kondei works consisting of calligraphy written with gold paint on navy paper, and ""Hakken no Ki"" and other pieces in a hologram calligraphy series. The first and second floors are occupied by exhibition rooms, while the third floor is a training and instruction room. An arbor, supported by four crimson-lacquered pillars, stands on the museum's balcony."

    A shop and sample garden for Hinoharu Herb Garden specializing in herbs and perennials located a 15-minute walk from JR Hinoharu Station. While they feature mainly herbs, they cultivate over 300 different types of plants from around the world including many rare varieties not available anywhere else making this a must-stop location for herb lovers. During the flower blooming season up to early summer the attached herb garden is a gorgeous must see. The sales office selling seedlings and seeds and also provides information regarding cultivation methods and mail order sales of seedlings.

    Quietly sitting in the middle of the Yatsugatake forest with its characteristic mountain hut appearance is Ehonmura. This is the first library in Japan dedicated to picture books with a ‘Story House’ where you can freely read picture books, and an ‘Art House’ with a display of original picture book images and a picture book corner just for grown-ups. The idea is to bring the world of picture books and the warmth of the wooded surroundings into the hearts of children from 0 to 100 years old. Workshops and puppet shows are held on the stage decorated with cute looking pictures. And in the adjoining cafe visitors can enjoy a relaxing cup of original herb tea.

    This venerable purveyor of Kikyo Shingen mochi rice cakes, a local Yamanashi delight, makes a number of other Japanese confections including their multiple award-winning Shingen mochi. The company's Confection Museum exhibits decorative confections that recreate Japan's seasonal flowers with the ingredients used to create high-grade Japanese fresh confections. Visitors are sure to appreciate the level of skill and dedication required to create these works of confectionary art.

    Draped in abundant nature, Kiyoharu Art Colony is a famous location-built on the ruins of the abandoned Kiyoharu Elementary School-for the 30 Yoshino cherry trees planted by children in 1925 which still remain today. It offers a lot to see, including the Kiyoharu Shirakaba Museum with all kinds of exhibits connected to Shirakaba style and La Ruche, a creative place for artists.

    甲府市の印傳屋の2階にある博物館です。印伝を人に差し上げることがあるので、この店にはよく来ます。博物館があることは知っていましたが、今回初めて見学しました。ホールは一つで、テーマ別に展示会をやっているようです。ビデオで印傳の制作の過程を見ることができます。使うことはあっても、制作の難しさまで知らなかったのでいい勉強になりました。

    清里に暮らすヤマネのミュージアム。前から気になっていたのですが娘家族と3世帯での旅行で初めて行きました。2さいの孫はとても喜んでいました。写真がとれて遊ぶことができました。

    細い曲がりくねった小道に車を進めると現れる、コンクリートの大きな建物。この一部がミュージアム。 ギャラリー自体は大きくないが、上質なソファや書物もある。何より美しい自然が魅力。現在、使われてないホテル部分がなんとも残念だ。廃墟にならねばいいが。 セゾンカードで200円割引。
