An aquarium standing on Onahama second Port’s Pier facing the Pacific Ocean. As befitting its location at the point where the Japan Current and Kurile Current collide, the aquarium’s permanent exhibit is dedicated to the theme of ocean fronts where two bodies of water meet. The aquarium is also notable for its many experience-based learning facilities, including the Aquamarine Egg, which has hands-on exhibits for children; and Janome Beach, one of the largest touch pools in the world. The facility is also dedicated to research and conserving the environments of marine creatures threatened with extinction.

Nice variety of local and tropical environments. Informative for older children, tropical fish for young children to follow, relaxing for adults.

There are displays of many precious fossils from all over the world, with the centerpiece being the Futabasaurus suzukii plesiosaur skeleton that was discovered in the Futaba Town of Iwaki City. The coal exhibition area has displays on the history of coal’s use as a fuel, focusing on the coal that used to be mined in the Iwaki region, and on the history of coal-mining. This part of the Museum includes a very authentic reproduction of part of a coal mine, which was used as a filming location for the movie “Hula Girls.”

Some English explanations exist, so that foreigner can also enjoy. If you are sort of freak on something scientific this is the place you should visit. Scientifically coal and fossil are almost the...

A memorial museum that helps visitors understand everything about volcanos and eruptions. Although the Bandai Highlands are beautiful in any season, that beauty was built on top of the many casualties of the steam-blast eruption of the mountain in 1888. This facility teaches visitors about what happened to the Bandai Highlands after the eruption. It also has exhibits about the connection between volcanos (worldwide and in Japan) and meteorological phenomena, as well as temporary seasonal exhibits.
