    Tokyo Shinjuku-ku Nishi-shinjuku 2-11
A city planning park located in 2-Chome Nishishinjuku which is the largest park established by Shinjuku Ward. Surrounded by towering high-rises, including the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the lush park is known to many as an oasis in the middle of the big city. Seasonal flowers and small creatures can be seen on the grounds, and the park is the perfect place to go nature watching or take a leisurely walk. Events such as flea markets are held in the park on weekends and holidays, and many parents come with their children to enjoy a water play pool open each year from mid-July to early September.

We came here after visiting the huge government buildings and found it nice and quiet and enjoyed our walk around. Lovely garden beds and some nice interesting pieces of art/sculptures about A nice...

    Tokyo Nakano-ku Matsugaoka 1-34-28
"A municipal park established in the Matsugaoka area to the north of Nakano Ward in 1904. Called the ""Philosophy Theme Park,"" the roughly 56,000 square meter grounds have pathways, stone structures, and unique buildings that are all related to philosophy. Enjoy a leisurely walk while getting a peak into the world of founder Enryu Inoue. Also known as Professor Yokai Japanese ghost, he founded today's Toyo University. There are 100 cherry, plum, and other flowering trees on site, making it the ward's leading spot for blossom viewing."

Its nice year round. Nice waking trails along the river. Japanese garden features. Statues of world religious leaders.

    Tokyo Shinjuku-ku Nishi-waseda 3-5
"This traditional Japanese strolling garden built around a central pond is the only one of its kind to be operated by Shinjuku Ward. The site was originally a villa belonging to the Shimizu-Tokugawa family, and the garden which you can visit today is the same one originally created for this estate. ""Kansenen"" literally translates to ""Sweet Spring Garden,"" a name it is said to have been given because the waters of the spring which wells up on the site are perfect for making delicious tea. Popular as a Japanese garden which is easily accessible, the grounds are overflowing with natural, seasonal beauty, including azaleas and hydrangeas, new spring greenery, and fall foliage. In a wintertime tradition in Shinjuku, staff employed by the ward erect stunning yukizuri rope cages, a Japanese horticulture technique designed to protect trees from heavy snows."

    Tokyo Shinjuku-ku Shimo-Ochiai 2-10
This park was originally a reserve for hunting and falconry for the shogunate. As such it was off-limits to the rest of the population. A road runs through the center of the park, splitting it into a western section with a mixed forest of konara oaks and sudajii chinquapins and an eastern section with a large pond. There is a spring-fed pond at the center of the park with views of old Musashino. It used to be a well-known spot for viewing fireflies. They still breed a variety of fireflies there and hold events like the Firefly Viewing Night at the end of July. The event is so popular that numbered tickets are issued.

    Tokyo Suginami-ku Omiya 2
A metropolitan park with a quiet atmosphere enshrouded by trees in a residential part of Tokyo's Suginami City. The park area was originally quite low and ponds would form here due to overflows from the Zenpukuji River; this area was then later turned into a park in the late 1950s. The vast, 260 thousand square meter park grounds encompass two sports tracks, a barbecue ground, and baseball field. In total, the park is straddled by 12 bridges, from the Hakusanmae Bridge to the Musashino Bridge. The park is famously a habitat for kingfishers and other water birds, a rarity in Tokyo, and many people come here to enjoy bird watching around the park's woods, which primarily consist of sawtooth oak and konara oak.

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
