Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Chiyoda The Imperial Palace East Gardens
The Imperial Palace East Garden was created on land that had formerly formed part of the Honmaru, Ninomaru and Sannomaru zones of Edo Castle, during the construction of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo; the East Garden is open to the public. A number of historical remains and vestiges of Edo Castle can be seen in the East Garden, including part of the Tenshu-dai (the foundation platform for the castle’s main tower), the Ote-mon Gate, the Hyakunin Bansho guardhouse, etc., and as a result the East Garden attracts large numbers of both overseas and domestic tourists. The East Garden also has a wealth of natural beauty, including the “Prefectural Trees” presented to the Garden by every prefecture in Japan, making it a popular place for a stroll or just to sit and relax.

I enjoyed a walk around the gardens on a sunny Tokyo day. It is a pleasant place to stroll around and it is free to access. A fun walk to do while you are in the city.

    Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Hibiyakouen 1-6
A metropolitan park opened in 1903 as Japan’s first modern Western-style park. The park’s spacious grounds are filled with a variety of trees and flowers and is a popular and well-known place to enjoy flowers. Events are held in the park year-round such as gardening shows and a Christmas market.

WHERE / how to get there: This park is humongous, and right in the midst of the main business district, just a 15-minute walk or 20-minute stroll along Naka Street (Naka-dori Avevue) from central...

Located in Chiyoda City, Tokyo, Chidorigafuchi Park is one of the best places in central Tokyo for viewing cherry blossom. During the cherry blossom season, when the Somei Yoshino, Yamazakura and other cherry tree species are in flower, the Park receives large numbers of visitors every day. The Park is situated between the Chidorigafuchi Moat (on the west side of the Imperial Palace) and the British Embassy; there is a boat pier adjacent to the 700 meter long pedestrian footpath that runs beside Chidorigafuchi Moat.

    Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Koukyogaien 1-1
This park that opened to the public in 1949 used to be a part of the Imperial Palace grounds. At the “Gaien Area”, in which the Kokyogaien National Garden Plaza is located, with its grassy lawn and black pines visitors can observe historical buildings such as the Sakurada-mon Gate or the Nijubashi Bridge. Other points of interest include a very leafy suburban forest park in the “Kitanomaru Area” and the “Kokyo Gaishu Area” surrounded by 12 moats that were once part of the Edo Castle. It is one of the most popular touristic sites of Tokyo with many visitors coming from inside and outside of Japan.

    Tokyo Chiyoda-ku Kitanomarukouen 1-1
Kitanomaru Park is a public park located just to the north of the Imperial Palace in Tokyo; it was repurposed as a forest park in the 1960s. The name “Kitanomaru” derives from the fact that this area was originally the Kita-no-maru (North Bailey) of Edo Castle during the Edo period. Besides its beautiful lawns, ponds and trees, the Park also features two gates that were formerly part of Edo Castle—the Tayasu-mon Gate and the Shimizu-mon Gate—so that the Park gives a rough impression of what Edo Castle looked like in its heyday. Kitanomaru Park is renowned for its spectacular cherry blossoms in spring and its beautiful autumnal foliage in autumn.

"This park has a fountain that was built in 1961 to commemorate the marriage of then Emperor Akihito. Based on the theme of ""continuation and new development,"" it was completed in 1995 as a highly expressive and elegant space composed of water and greenery. Utilizing the prototype of conventional large fountains, each facility and monument are connected by adding a dynamic waterfall and a quiet stream. There is a monument with poems written by then Emperor, bridge that symbolizes hope, resting place and rest house in the park."

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
