    Tokyo Machida-shi Tadao 1-2-1
"A Japanese sweet shop on the Machida Highway in the city center. With branches nationwide, this Ginza Akebono shop is unusual in that it has its own on-site factory. The company's signature product is their ""Aji-no-Mingei,"" part of their concept of ""sweets as folk art that brings real beauty and great taste to daily life."" It contains 12 rice cracker varieties, including okaki wafers with a blend of two cheeses and roasted mochi pieces with spicy pine nuts. Inspired by flowers and Japan's traditional 24 seasons, their colorful, individually wrapped ""Nijushisetsuhana"" product makes a great gift."

    Tokyo Hachioji-shi Uratakaomachi 1083
"This long-established tofu store was founded in 1958. Located just next to the Surusashi bus stop, it sells ""Surusashi no Tofu"" made with the high-quality groundwater of the Mt. Takao catchment area. Classic momen tofu is the highest quality tofu, filling your mouth with the sweetness of soybeans. Tofu, with its relatively soft texture, goes well with cold foods and any other ingredient. There are many repeat visitors who visit from far away in search of this carefully made tofu, which is made in keeping with the traditional manufacturing method. Also popular are deep-fried soybeans, freshly squeezed soymilk using 100% domestic soybeans, as well as fluffy tofu donuts."
  • Amezaiku Yoshihara (Sendagi Flagship Store)
    Shopping
    Tokyo Bunkyo-ku Sendagi 1-23-51F
This is the first specialty store for traditional Japanese candy sculpting. This store was established as the first of its kind in order to spread awareness of the traditional Japanese art of candy sculpting, which dates all the way back to the Edo period (1603-1868). The cozy interior of the store contains a number of tightly packed displays showing off their unique candy sculptures. They create the sculpture before your eyes in around three minutes, and once they're done the candy is yours to take away with you. The store's signature attraction is the opportunity to pay to observe their swift and highly skilled sculptors as they create a candy sculpture of your choice (chosen from a menu that includes pandas, cats, cherry blossoms, Chinese Zodiac and more). They make for fine gifts for special occasions, such as for weddings or for Mother's Day.

One of their showcase items is a ""Specialty Fresh Roasted Nori"" that uses premium seaweed cooked with far infrared rays, which was awarded a top prize from the Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. They make their products in-house for top quality flavor, which is perfect for taking home or gift giving. Their wide variety of products also include unique items with character themes and message prints."

The signature product at this store is Edomae Atsuyaki Tamago (Tokyo-style thick omelet) which appears in the rakugo (traditional comic storytelling) ""Fox of Oji."" The slightly sweet omelet which is introduced in various media such as TV, magazines, etc. is popular. The omelet, which is cooked by craftsmen with traditional techniques one by one and wrapped individually with care, is perfect for a gift. Oyako-yaki which is cooked with ground chicken and Japanese parsley also is extremely popular."

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
