- Tokyo Taito-ku Asakusa 1-28-3
- A shop specializing in shichimi-togarashi (seven-spice chili pepper blend), a classic Tokyo favorite that's popularity has remain unchanged since the shop's founding in 1625. Along with Kyoto's Shichimiya Honpo and Nagano's Yawataya Isogoro, it's counted among the top three seven-spice chili pepper shops in Japan. Its spicy original blend featuring fragrant black sesame seeds and nicely scented sansho (Japanese pepper) is unique to the Kanto area. Customers can adjust the blend to their preferred flavor and spice level. It makes a great condiment for the dinner table or Asakusa souvenir, and people come from far and wide to buy it as a gift.

I bought the custard filling age manju. It is deliciously chewy but has an interesting texture since it is fried.

- Tokyo Taito-ku Asakusa 2-3-1
- This is the oldest of the several Asakusa shops selling small freshly baked snack cakes known as ningyo-yaki. It's on the Nakamise Shopping Street corner closest to Asakusa Kannon. They've been making their cakes with the same traditional lightly sweet flavor since they opened in 1872. The shop's founder came up with their four Asakusa-related cake varieties: five-storied pagoda, thunder god, lantern, and pigeon. The expiration date is about a week from purchase. Besides a snack to munch on while wandering Asakusa, they make tasty gifts and souvenirs. The shop also sells slightly sweet ankonashi treats.

- Tokyo Taito-ku Asakusa 2-3-1 Nakamise-dori
- A monaka specialty shop that's the only one of its kind in Japan. Monaka are wafer cakes filled with bean jam. Located on the Nakamise Shopping Street, their treats have a good old-fashioned flavor. Their super popular ice cream monakas are tweaked for modern times but still have the same flavor as old-school sweet shop monakas. You can choose from a number of ice cream fillings, including coconut, chocolate chip, vanilla, and purple yam. Made with 100% domestic glutinous mochi rice with a delightful crispy texture, they're carefully baked one-by-one. Only available in summer, their homemade plum juice is the perfect way to beat the heat.

Tokyo Areas
The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
