This tourist facility features various historic Western-style buildings that were moved here and remodeled, with the crown jewel being the Glover House, Japan's oldest wooden Western-style building and which was erected here at the end of the Tokugawa shogunate. In 2015, the Glover House was registered as one of the World Heritage Sites of Japan's Meiji Industrial Revolution: Iron and Steel, Shipbuilding and Coal Mining. The grounds are planted with numerous seasonal flowers such as rosebushes and bigleaf hydrangeas, providing visitors with colorful scenery year-round. The site also features a photo studio where visitors can take a commemorative picture wearing period clothing, as well as a coffee house offering a sweeping view of the harbor. Visitors are encouraged to make plenty of time and stroll the grounds leisurely.

For over a thousand years, the gasses, hot mud, and boiling waters erupting from beneath the area from Kanawa to Kamegawa have led it to being called the Jigoku (Hells) of Beppu. In 2009, four hot springs, Umi (Sea) Jigoku, Chinoike (Blood Pond) Jigoku, Tatsumaki Jigoku, and Shiraike (White Pond) Jigoku were designated as National Places of Scenic Beauty. Visiting these four hot springs in addition to three other famous ones is fun and enjoyable. In addition to hot spring eggs (slow boiled in hot spring waters), hell-themed souvenirs such as Chinoike ointment, and Enman no Yu (bath salts) are popular to take home and give to friends. A 15-minute drive by car from JR Beppu Station.

Established in 1886, Maruyama Park is the oldest park in Kyoto City and is a nationally designated Place of Scenic Beauty. A strolling garden built around a central pond created by the famed Ogawa Jihei VII, the graceful design makes use of natural hills. The garden vicinity is dotted with buildings such as a traditional Japanese ryotei restaurant, tea house, and the Maruyama Park Concert Hall as well as numerous other points of note, including Basho’s Hermitage and bronze statues of Sakamoto Ryoma and Nakaoka Shintaro. Also famous for its “Gion weeping cherry trees,” the beauty of the park’s cherries illuminated at night have become a must-see symbol of Kyoto. Gion-Shijo Station is the closest station to the park.

It’s a pretty nice park and has a few shrines in or around it. Definitely a little creepy at night though, wife and I took a stroll and decided to leave. Lol

Umi Jigoku boasts of being the largest among the Beppu Jigoku hot springs. The beautiful cobalt blue color is due to iron sulphate in the hot spring water. Royal water lilies and tropical water lilies are cultivated using the heat from the hot spring and the flowers will be at their best from early May until early November. At the Bon Festival event, lower grade elementary school children (up to 20 kilograms) can get on the leaves of the royal water lilies that float in the pond. There is also a footbath. The hot spring has been designated as a National Place of Scenic Beauty.

The large and main place of hell jigoku have many interesting place in here. If you have less time around here. This place in the one that you must select.

Featuring air thick with the smell of sulfur and white steam bursting from underground, Unzen Jigoku (Unzen Hell) really lives up to its name. It is known as a place where Christians were once tortured to death, and there are monuments dedicated to their martyrdom. Some of the attractions include the “Unzen Jigoku Steaming Footbath,” where visitors can experience the sensation of geothermal heat and steam, and the “Unzen Jigoku Workshop,” which sells eggs with an interesting effect: “Eat one, and you live a year longer. Eat two, and you live two years longer. Eat three, and you live long until you die.” In the fall, over 2,000 of these eggs are sold every day, making them quite the hot item indeed.

It is main reason why one has to go to Unzen. You may need 2 to 3 hours to get around the whole place. Wearing a pair of comfortable shoes is recommended.

The mannequin was created in 1973 on the one year anniversary of the opening of the Seven Building (later renamed the Young Building and closed in 2011) to serve as a symbol of that facility. This is a semi-arched dome acting as a breakwater in Wakkanai port. It was built over a period of five years beginning in 1931. The long archway, reminiscent of ancient Roman architecture, has a total length of 427 meters and 70 columns. As a seawall it is a unique looking structure and has been selected as a Hokkaido heritage site.

The breakwater structure is massive in size and strength. You can climb the stairs next to it to look out over the sea. There are also dome artforms nearby to examine.

This leisure complex is in Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture. Designed by the architect Tadao Ando, as a whole it forms a unique, dynamic Kaiyu style, Japanese style garden with a path around a central pond. It hosted the Japan Flora 2000 international flower, gardening and landscape exhibition. The elaborate gardens feature the Hyakudan-en, a hundred stepped flower bed where guests can enjoy seasonal flowers year-round. The lookout has a view of the grounds and Akashi Kaikyo National Government Park. They have three restaurants serving Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine, and two shops where you can purchase Awaji Island souvenirs. This is a theme park that has repurposed the open set that served as the filming location in the 1987 movie Twenty-Four Eyes. Homes, the school and fishermen’s residences that stand side-by-side harken back to the early Showa period and convey the appearance of the film’s world. In addition to the Tsuboi Sakae Memorial Museum dedicated to the author of the novel the film was based on, the Shochikuza Movie Theater that regularly screens Twenty-Four Eyes, and the “Kinema no Iori” gallery that introduces various Japanese films of the 1950s, there is also a restaurant and cafe on site.
