    Morioka Machiya Monogatarikan is a civic multipurpose facility in the city of Morioka, Iwate Prefecture. A well-preserved building from Morioka's past, the Hamato Sake Warehouse, was remodeled and reopened as a multipurpose facility. Inside are shops that recreate the look of a Showa (1926-1989) period shopping district and a cafe where visitors can drink varieties of coffee that are unique to the facility. The multipurpose hall serves as the site of a wide variety of events, lectures, and other public occasions.

    北上川の水運に関係した河岸があった地域で、明治期から135年間続いた旧岩手川酒造の工場の建物群を利用した施設です。土産物屋や物産館、カフェもあります。

  • Ishiwarizakura (The Rock-Splitting Cherry Tree)

    This an edohigan cherry tree that is more than 360 years old which has taken root near the prefectural offices in Morioka City. It grows from a large crack in a huge granite builder 21 meters in circumference. The tree was designated as a Natural Monument in 1923 and blooms every year from about mid-April.

    "Dendera Field is in the Yamaguchi area of Tono City. It's known for the ""Ubasute Folktale.” According to the Legends of Tono, there was a custom of people over 60 years of age coming to live out their final days there in a self-sufficient manner. Now, there is the idyllic landscape includes beautiful natural scenery with traditional minka houses in the distance."
  • Omonomi Park

    About 15 minutes on foot from JR Maesawa Station, this park is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot from mid to late April. It's on a hill overlooking the townscape of Maesawa in Oshu City and gets lots of visitors during cherry blossom season. Fun for kids and grown-ups alike, a variety of events are held during the Omonomi Park Cherry Blossom Festival. There's also a large complex playground with a jungle gym, animal replicas, etc. that is fun for the children. Hiking while taking in the natural scenery is also recommended.

    "A popular, romantic spot in Hanamaki City, Iwate Prefecture, a four-minute walk from Hanamaki Station. The 10-meter high, 80-meter long retaining wall features a fantastic picture created with special paint. It was inspired by the novel ""Night on the Galactic Railroad.” Only the painting's white outlines are visible during the daytime, and the full painting can only really be appreciated at night. When lit up in the darkness, it glows a mysterious and vivid blue and pink, creating a wonderful impression of the galaxy. It's illuminated from sunset to 10p.m.."
  • Kobo-zakura Cherry Tree

    Located about a 30-minute drive from the Tohoku Expressway’s Morioka Interchange and about ten minutes by taxi from JR Shizukuishi Station. The edo-higanzakura cherry is about 800 years old and is designated as a natural monument in Shizukuishi. It is the oldest in Iwate Prefecture and the largest in size. There is a legend that when Kobo Daishi visited, the cherry blossom staff he had took root where he stabbed it into the ground and became a cherry tree. Every year around Golden Week, many beautiful flowers bloom with such power that it does not seem like an old tree.

    Located about a 70-minute drive from the Hachinohe Expressway’s Kunohe Interchange, this experience facility opens part of the Noda Tamagawa Mine, one of Japan's leading manganese deposits with a history of more than 100 years, to the public as a sightseeing mineshaft. In addition to reproducing mining work with machines and dolls, it also exhibits gemstones, minerals and fossils from around the world. It is now known as the only mining site for rhodonite in Japan, sells “marine rose” jewelry and natural stones processed from rhodonite, and offers original jewelry-making experiences.

It has been named one of the 100 Exquisite and Well-Conserved Waters in Heisei Era, and like the nearby Daiji Spring Water, it has been used as an everyday water supply since ancient times. Four wells, one for drinking water, one for washing rice, one for washing clothes, and one for washing feet were set up and were managed by the local people. Near the spring are businesses that depend on using the famous water: including tofu makers, sake brewers, and soba noodle shops.

    This famous spot to see plum trees is located in the Kagitori, Fukuoka, Ninohe City. A 400-year-old plum tree has been planted on the grounds, along with the garden ruins of Masazane Kunohe, Nanbu's vassal. The six-petal plum blossom blooms from mid-April every year on a tree five meters high and divided into three trunks from the root.

    This dogtooth violet colony is located in the Yasugasawa area of Nishiwaga Town, Waga County. There are three colonies scattered about, and they usually bloom from around late April. In addition to the adjoining Asian skunk-cabbage colony, you can also enjoy the sight of the Asian fawn lilies and North Japanese hill cherry trees blooming at the same time.

    A lonesame cherry blossoms (an Edo-higanzakura) on the Koiwai Farm—Japan’s largest private comprehensive farm—was planted as a “shade tree” to protect cows from the harsh sunlight of summer around 1910. It usually blooms during Golden Week. The contrast of cherry blossoms with lingering snow on Mt. Iwate is gorgeous.
  • Hanamaki Onsen Rose Garden

    Hanamaki Onsen Rose Garden is in the city of Hanamaki, Iwate Prefecture. The garden covers over 150,000 square feet, with 6,000 rose bushes of 450 different varieties. Some of the roses are new varieties created by improving older varieties. The garden's Sundial Flower Bed was designed by Miyazawa Kenji, a famous author of children's books. The grounds are illuminated every night from the end of May to November.

    Iwate Ninohe-gun Ichinohemachi Kotsunagi Higashi Tako 2-2

    旧・奥州街道をランニングで旅した際に立ち寄りました。この辺りは山の中を旧街道が通っており、飲食店などが無いのでここは貴重なエイドスポットでした。店頭に大きく書かれていた串もちが気になって注文。すぐに焼き上げてくれました。えごま味噌は独特の風味が好みに合いました。好き嫌いが分かれる味かな。普通の味噌味もあります。
