    A renowned studio founded by a porcelain manufacturer in 1875. The studio produces Arita ware which has won prizes in contests around the world. The studio’s distinctive hard white porcelain decorated with splendid designs are even referred to as the “Koransha style” and are highly praised. The studio’s showroom displays Koransha art pieces and items supplied to the Imperial household as well as everyday goods like fountain pens and tableware. The perfect place to search for a souvenir or present that is a cut above.

    有田焼の里、有田は、国道の北側を走る旧道沿いに、古い町並みが残っていました。その旧道沿いに、香蘭社の有田本店がありました。 旧道沿いに香蘭社の古くて素敵な建物が建っていて、門のようなところから内部に入ると、中庭のような場所に数台分の駐車場がありました。そこから、旧道沿いに建つ本店へと向かいました。 さすが、香蘭社の本店ですね。有田焼のお店の域をはるかに超えていて、有田焼の美術館のようなんです...

    Saga Imari Okawachicho Okawa Uchiyama Otsu 1820
    The directly-managed store has a manufacturing plant and showroom, and offers a wide range of Imari Nabeshima ware, including the Cuir Design, which has a beautiful leather-like texture and luster, and the Leger Series, which is made of a special ceramic clay that allows light to penetrate through the ware. The company also offers factory tours for those who wish to visit.

    数ある大川内山の窯元の中では個人的に一番好みの焼き物を製作されています。透かし彫りや鍋島・青磁などモヨギ色が素晴らしい上絵の具の陶磁器がありますが、今でも製作されているかはわかりませんが、昔に素晴らしいと思ったのは上絵具の白盛で焼かれた梅の作品が素晴らしかったです。 風鈴まつりでは店舗入口上に伊万里焼の風鈴が飾られていました。

    "A sake brewery open to tourists situated along National Route 207 in Hama-machi, Kashima City. Situated along Sakagura-dori Street (a street lined with many old sake breweries) which has been designated a National Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings, this particular brewery has been making sake for four generations. Visitors can view the brewery, experience Japan's bygone Showa period in the ""Showa Room,"" and check out sightseeing destinations on the street. The brewery also offers sake tastings and its direct sales shop sells limited run products."

    "The kiln is located in Uban Futsukura (姥の懐), a village in Karatsu, and is the home of Takashi Nakazato, who won the first prize for his ceramic sculpture ""Sogyo"" at the 10th Modern Japanese Ceramic Art Exhibition sponsored by the Asahi Shimbun in 1961, and the prize at the 1985 Selected Modern Ceramic Art Exhibition sponsored by the Ceramic Society of Japan, and now three generations of his family are producing pottery. Tours are available, so please inquire in advance."

    A famous old Imari ware pottery workshop with some 260 years of history. Traditional old Imari ware is characterized by a modern functional beauty coupled with a distinctive decorative style. In the adjoining museum, visitors can view numerous pieces of old Imari ware gathered from throughout Japan and the world. Note that the museum is only open on weekdays as well as partially on Saturdays. Be sure to check the official website for business days.

    A green tea processing factory situated along National Route 34 in Iwayagawachi, Ureshino-machi, Ureshino City. Surrounded by tea fields, inside visitors can see how tea is made. Visitors can also sample the factory's teas and purchase freshly- made tea leaves at reasonable prices in the factory's shop.

    Stopped by a green tea factory and shop in Ureshino Ochachamura at Saga Prefecture in way to Nagasaki. Tasted various green tea and bought cold green tea bags. Very nice and fragrant to drink cold.

    "A sake brewery located in Kusuku Yamashiro-cho, Imari City. Established in 1716, the brewery crafts liquors such as the renowned sake, ""Matsuuraichi"". Visitors can check out the brewery and view historic items such as old farming and brewery equipment used up until the mid-1950s, as well as the mummy of a kappa goblin viewed as a water guardian deity. With an advance reservation, visitors can also receive a guided brewery tour."

A fun place just to come and look around, the studio’s shop is filled with beautiful small dishes decorated using pattern paper as well as free hand designs.

    The history of the traditional Ironabe-shima Ware and Rozan Kiln began in the Edo period, when the Nabeshima family, lords of the Hizen Province’s Nabeshima domain decided to make a gift of pottery. The materials used to color each finished piece (Iroe-jiki) are carefully selected for their calming and beautiful traits. The traditional techniques and the workers’ response to the changing times can be seen clearly in their work. The kiln is approximately ten minutes by car from the Chikuhi Line’s Kami-Imari Station.

    The kiln is located in the Okawachiyama district of Imari City, surrounded by deep nature, and continues to produce Nabeshima celadon porcelain of a translucent pale blue color using glazes made from pottery stones produced in Okawachiyama, with a soft luster and rich celadon of incomparable beauty. Although there are artificial glazes that can produce a similar blue color, the Changchun celadon porcelain kiln continues to produce porcelain by following the method inherited from the feudal era.

    A pottery studio with a roughly 370-year history reaching back to 1644. They maintain the tradition of the official glazers of iro-nabeshima ware for the Nabeshima clan as gifts to the shogun during the Edo period. They've been certified as purveyors of a nationally Important Intangible Cultural Property. The kiln's pieces are housed in many museums, including the Agency for Cultural Affairs and the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.

    A sake brewery founded in 1974 as a joint venture between three breweries, led by Taiko-shuzo, which has been brewing since 1705. Since then their flagship Juraku Taiko sake has enjoyed great popularity, particularly in northern Kyushu as a local Karatsu brew. Fermentation is carefully controlled through applying the characteristics of high-quality rice from Saga Prefecture and extremely soft water. Their popular sake is soft, smooth, ample-bodied, and mellow.

    "A kiln located on a gentle slope in the mountains close to the town of Yobuko, known as ""Squid Town."" It's also not far from the Nagoya Castle ruins, a nationally designated Special Historic Site. In addition to tea bowls and tableware, it produces a variety of ceramic pieces including decorative animals and musical instruments. Four times a year they exhibit a collection of everyday tableware, tea ceremony utensils, vases, sake cups, decorative objects, and other items. A visit comes with tea and lunch."
