"With a main store located near Kitayama Station, the triangular roof and brick facade is the sign that you've come to Western confectioner ""Malebranche."" You can enjoy eat-in desserts only available at the salon adjacent to the shop. In the connecting concierge's room, they sell some products of the chocolaterie ""Cacao 365 Gion Shop."""

Kyoto is full of wonderful treats but Malebranche stands heads and shoulders above any of the confectionaries we experienced. The okoicha langue de chat biscuit is delicious and will delight...

A café located along Kita Oji-dori Avenue housed inside a charming, old-fashioned home that was remodeled after becoming vacant. Operated by a husband and wife team, the café building is also the couple’s home and is situated in a quiet area not far from the Kamo River. Each cup of the café’s delicious coffee is made from home-roasted beans carefully prepared one at a time using a unique drip method. The café also serves toasts, cakes, and rusks which go well with coffee, making it a popular destination to take a break and enjoy a light meal in between a walk about town. On clear days, patrons can order a picnic basket containing a pot of coffee, cups, and sweets and enjoy a picnic on the Kamo River. Closest station: Kitaoji Station.

This fruit parlor is in the Misonobashi 801 Shopping District, five minutes' walk from Kamigamo-jinja Shrine. The retro-interior is perfect for enjoying a menu of treats made with loads of seasonal fruit supplied by a fruit seller. They sell fruit parfaits made with ripe delights like melon, strawberry, apple, pineapple, mango and orange, which are perfect for a Kyoto walk. They also have fruit sandwiches loaded with thick-cut fruit and whipped cream, allowing you to savor every mouthful of fruit.

This hideout café behind Ritsumeikan University is a five minute walk from Ritsumeikan, on the city bus route. The downstairs shop is large, and has a calm atmosphere with soft light and greenery. There are also many types of cakes and waffles, so visitors can enjoy the café leisurely. The lunch menu offers plate lunches with multigrain rice, pasta etc. The hand dripped coffee carefully brewed is also delicious. It is open until 19:00 and also has a dinner menu. Also, groups are welcome with a reservation.

After exploring Ryoan-ji Temple, I stumbled upon a charming cafe, a perfect stop after a long walk. The cafe takes its name from the well-known book written by the renowned author Kenji Miyazawa...

Kyoto Areas

around-area-map

Its wooden tea houses, shuffling geisha, and spiritual sights have seen Kyoto hailed as the heart of traditional Japan, a world apart from ultramodern Tokyo. Despite being the Japanese capital for over a century, Kyoto escaped destruction during World War II, leaving behind a fascinating history which can be felt at every turn, from the fully gold-plated Kinkakuji Temple down to traditional customs such as geisha performances and tea ceremonies, which are still practiced to this day.
