The cafe area is small and the staffs...

This is a symbolic facility of Nakamachi Street lined with warehouse buildings characteristic for their white walls and black namako (raised plaster) designs. The main building and storehouse of the Miyamura sake brewery were separated and reconstructed, and the storehouse is now operating as a teahouse. Inside it is built in an open atrium storehouse style, with a consistent chic theme based around Matsumoto folk items. One can enjoy Japanese style sweets and tea sets, famous brand cakes, and fresh ground coffee while looking out over the Japanese garden. The main building and detachment are normally open, and available as rental spaces for exhibitions, classrooms and events. The nearest station is Matsumoto Station.

Located in Shiojiri City, Nagano Prefecture, this café is inside Naraijuku, which formerly prospered as a post town of Nakasendo Highway. The building is a renovated 200-year old civilian home, but despite the aged exterior, the interior has a charming, comfortable feel that merges East and West. The cakes and sweets are all handmade, all carefully baked up using local ingredients. One popular item is the Shinshu favorite “Gohei mochi set.” Coffee made from freshly brewed beans is good too. The location also used to be a lacquerware factory, so lacquerware and other miscellany are sold inside.

Hier wordt goede koffie vers gezet; er zijn heerlijke taarten en de bediening is vriendelijk. Een prima pitstop!

A tea salon in Karuizawa Town, Kitasaku County, Nagano Prefecture owned by authors and husband and wife Uchida Yasuo and Maki Hayasaka. The café’s Victorian-style building is surrounded by trees, and its charming appearance blends in perfectly with Karuizawa’s holiday home area. The café’s tea, served with the pot, and homemade scones are highly reviewed; the curried pilaf, a favorite of Uchida Yasuo, is delicious. Pets are allowed in the terrace and sunroom seating areas. The “Forest where Fairies Live ” beyond the café has trails visitors can enjoy walking.
