    A 20-minute walk from JR Makino Station. This longstanding sake brewery, established in 1877, is located near the Kaizu Sanku bus stop. Situated on the northwest shore of Lake Biwa, the brewery continues to make choice sakes using locally-grown Yamada Nishiki rice. The brewery's Chikubushima seishu refined sake brand, produced for local consumption, is quite popular; the brewery also sells autumn-only hiyaoroshi sake, a sake cake created in collaboration with a confectionary shop, and more. The brewery's Kinmon sake is a staple for both momentous and sad events.

    This historic building is located in Takashima City, Shiga Prefecture. Built 150 years ago, this old merchant house has been renovated, keeping the weight and appearance of the building by volunteers from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and maintained as a tourist facility with an experience workshop and food sales. There are eight different parts to the building, with many different stores including tourist information, a cafeteria, a hair salon and a cafe.

This shop, located a short distance north of the Takashima City Hall Annex on Prefectural Route 291, sells handmade traditional Japanese candles. With an advance reservation, visitors can also tour the shop's workshop. The longstanding shop was established in 1914. The official purveyor of Japanese candles to the Daihonzan Eiheiji temple, the shop's candles are made utilizing choice materials and techniques passed down from generation to generation. The shop sells a variety of Japanese candles created for beauty or long-lasting light, as well as related items and products.

Visitors to Shiga prefecture are almost always hopping east across the prefectural border from Kyoto, and they are almost certainly Lake Biwa-bound.
