Japan’s largest safari park, located in Susono City, Shizuoka Prefecture. Some 30 species of animals, including a variety of large herbivores, bears, and lions live lives of ease in the park’s Safari Zone, which visitors can drive through in their own car or take a park bus tour through to view them up close in an environment close to their natural habitat. In the Fureai Zone, visitors can play with and feed kangaroos, capybaras, and other small animals. There’s also a popular Walking Safari course which lets you walk the outer perimeter of the safari zone on foot (closed in winter). The park offers a Night Safari course only on Saturday, Sunday, and holiday nights in spring and summer.

If youre in fuji, its worth a trip. Price runs 2800/person and you can expect to spend about 2 hours. Pro tip:DO NOT waste your time on the walking trail of the park. Its just for people that like...

    Shizuoka Pref. Fujinomiyashi Nebara 480-1
This theme park is located along National Route 139 in Nebara, Fujinomiya City. It exhibits a variety of flowers including 1,200 begonias in its air-conditioned all-weather green house. It also cares for about 100 birds representing around 30 species including owls, penguins, and emus. Visitors can enjoy watching bird shows as well as feeding and interacting with the birds. The park also has a restaurant that serves items such as Fujinomiya yakisoba (a local take on fried noodles) and a shop that offers original owl merchandise and other items.

Not much of a bird-lover, I agreed to go with Hubby. KACHOEN is quite AMAZING. First, a variety of owls, with different eyebrows. Explosion of color from the flowers, begonias in hanging baskets...

    Shizuoka Pref. Fujinomiyashi Yamamiya 3670
A museum in Yamamiya, Fujinomiya City. It was opened as Japan's first museum for stones in 1971. The variety of rare stones are displayed here not according to a mineralogical viewpoint, but using a viewpoint that compares them to animals or plants, based on Unkonshi-Japan's first expert stone manual, written by Sekitei Kiuchi, a naturalist of the Edo period. There are also exhibits of gemstones, luminous stones, dinosaur fossils and other fossils, and of materials related to Kenji Miyazawa (famous poet and author) as a geologist.

    40年ぶりの2度目、展示がわかりやすく楽しく見られる。付属館が休館していて残念だったので、また行きたい。

"The museum is located in Hiromi Park, one of the major parks in Fuji City, and was renovated from the Fuji City Museum to the ""Fuji Kaguyahime Museum"" in 2016 under the new name of ""Living in Fuji. The adjacent History and Folklore Museum introduces the fishing industry and rice cultivation."

An art museum located in the multipurpose resort Toki-no-Sumika, which is either a five-minute walk from Iwanami Station, a ten-minute drive from the Gotemba or Susono Intercahnge, or reachable via a free shuttlebus from three different train stations. It exhibits about 200 works of the Shizuoka-born artist Maejima Hideaki. One of the attractions of this museum is being able to enjoy a close-up view of his wood carvings of children and animals and other motifs. A further attraction is the adjacent aquarium where you can see 4,500 goldfish of about 200 species, including some expensive varieties coveted by collectors and others so novel that they don't even have names.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
