Manns Wines Komoro Winery is located in the east of Nagano Prefecture, a most suitable region for producing wine. The winery has a Chardonnay vineyard and a huge one hectare Japanese garden. The shop sells many products which cannot be purchased from anywhere else such as their domestic premium wine. In the restaurant you can enjoy food made with local Shinshu ingredients, with a glass of wine while looking out over the vineyard. Tasting is possible free of charge on the winery tours.

A sake shop alive with tradition since 1665. The sake here is distilled using the famous Shinshu waters and rice from the prefecture and takes into account the whole taste, flavor and aroma. Overall they mainly produce dry junmaishu (sake made without added alcohol or sugar), but their plum wine, developed on sake, is also popular. Their Shinshu Kirei was awarded first prize in the Ginjo category, and received an excellence award in the Junmai category of the Kanto Shinetsu National Research Institute of Brewing Sake Awards. It’s possible to taste the various sake on offer in the distillery and you can also pick up some souvenirs from the shop.

    Nagano Saku-shi Nagatoro 64-3
This beer factory is located in Nagatoro, Saku City. Visitors can watch beer being made in one of the largest and most advanced craft beer factories in Japan. Visitors can also look at works of art by master painter Hiroshi Senju displayed throughout the factory, and sample fresh-made draft beers (reservation must be made via the official website).

A one-minute walk from the Motai iriguchi bus stop and a 30-minute drive from the Saku Interchange and Yunomaru Interchange. This sake brewery is located not far from the Shinano Sanrin Art Museum; look for the stone Bokusui Wakayama monument out front. The brewery makes and sells sakes using underground spring water from Mt. Tateshina , including Misonotake, a sake variety well-known by locals; and Bokusui, a sake whose name is derived from the poet Bokusui Wakayama and the water of the former village of Maki. The brewery's Nakasendo is made by taking the rice-based shochu Misono and aging it for over five years. The brewery also makes special seasonal sakes such as for New Years and the flower viewing season. On the day of the Spring equinox, visitors can tour the factory and taste some of its wares, as well.

Nagano Areas

around-area-map

Nagano prefecture is an exciting mix of mountains, hot spring monkeys, and preserved Edo history. At the heart of the Japanese Alps, Nagano is one of the country’s most popular destinations, whether in winter for its snow sports and the much-loved Jigokudani Monkey Park or in the warmer months for discovering the undulating hills on foot. For fantastic Edo architecture, head to the Kiso Valley for a 60-kilometer stretch of quaint wooden buildings that marked the Nakasendo route 200 years ago.
