    This art museum is located in Hotakaariake, Azumino City. It opened in 1983 and is based on the concept of “displaying only mountain paintings at the base of the Northern Alps.” Permanent exhibits include works by Genichiro Adachi, Mizuki Kato, famous mountain painters, and currently active artists who specialize in depicting mountains.

    穂高駅前の観光案内所で借りた自転車で20分、近づくほどに看板が少なくなり右側の看板を見落とし1kmほど先まで行ってしまったが 緑に囲まれた小さな美術館に着き、お目当ての武本嘉成を楽しむことができた。

    This historical museum is located in Nagiso Town, Kiso County, Nagano Prefecture, and adjoins the Tsumago Post Office, which is still in use today. Tsumago Post Office was featured in Toson Shimazaki’s “Before the Dawn,” and was restored under the guidance of the current Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in fiscal year 1978. It has Japan’s only black mail box modeled after that in use when the post office first opened. Inside you can find Japan’s first stamp, the actual marks used before the current postal mark, correspondence from Toson Shimazaki’s older brother and niece, and other items for a total of approximately 270 articles being stored and exhibited.

    A rose garden which grows some 3,000 plants spanning around 270 varieties on 8,851 square meter grounds sprawling on the side of a mountain. The garden is located a 30-minute drive on National Route 361 from the Ina Interchange on the Chuo Expressway. Visitors can view hybrids, floribunda, and other colorful roses, as well as the scenery of the Central Japan Alps from 830 meters above sea level. The teahouse on the grounds offers soft serve ice cream and herbal teas. Each year, the garden holds a rose festival in June when they begin to bloom. Additionally, the garden holds concerts, flamenco performances, and other shows, as well as classes on how to raise roses.

    A museum with an atmospheric temple-like exterior, on top of a verdant hill. Throughout the year, the museum holds special exhibitions that are approachable to people of all ages. The permanent exhibition features a wide variety of art works, including paintings, crafts, and sculptures mainly by artists associated with Tatsuno Town, as well as archaeological materials such as clay figures from the Jomon period. The second-floor lobby has a library corner with a vast collection of books, magazines, and exhibition pictorial records, as well as a wide range of original goods such as postcards and pictorial records.

    A 10-minute walk from Kiso-Hirasawa Station on the JR Chuo Main Line. This museum was remodeled and reopened in June 2001. The museum collects and displays 3,729 designed National Important Tangible Folk Cultural Properties, examples of Kiso lacquerware and the tools used to create this craft, and items created by artisans designated Living National Treasures and Living Prefectural Treasures. Particularly eye-catching are the lacquerware face washing basins and the vessels and boxes used to transport food as part of high etiquette from the middle ages to the early modern period. The museum also holds events in which visitors can try lacquering, decorate chopsticks, or watch as a master creates lacquerware.

    Musée PEYNET is located within Karuizawa Taliesin. On display are personal painting tools and original paintings by the French artist Raymond Peynet. Here you can see the “Lovers” series of works painted by Peynet. Different exhibitions and events are held three times a year. The building makes use of the atelier villa designed by Czech architect Antonin Raymond. Opening times vary depending on the time of year so please check in advance.

    高原文庫に出かけた際ン十年ぶりに立ち寄った。ペイネのほのぼのとした世界が好きでこれまで何冊か知り合いの若者にささやかな結婚プレゼントとして差し上げた。今回は生誕100年記念として娘さんが所蔵していた原画の公開もありその他初期の作品をも拝見することができた。

    "A museum operating out of a fascinating old Japanese residence built in 1868 which was dismantled and moved to this site. Located in the center of the city a five-minute drive south of the Shiojiri-kita Interchange on the Nagano Expressway, the museum displays personal belongings and documents belonging to tanka poets connected to Shiojiri. The museum's collection notably primarily consists of letters, hanging scrolls, and poetry anthologies, and the facility focuses on ""poets"" over ""individuals."" The museum also invites celebrated poets to participate in high level tanka poetry classes, and is also used as an event space in order to promote interest in tanka poetry."

    塩尻市広丘にある、歌人の資料を飾ってある短歌館があります。 広丘は短歌が盛んなので、有名な人たちが昔いっぱいいたみたいです。 自分自身もそんなに短歌のことが、詳しいわけでは無いですが、資料を見て調べてみると、歌人の方たちの恋愛話などあって、広丘周辺でのストーリーが書いてありとても面白いです。 短歌になじみのない方も、いちど寄ってみてもいいかもしれないです。

After enjoying the works, relax in the tea room while gazing at the over 300 types of flowers in the garden.

    静かな美術館でした。所蔵、展示作品はあまり多くはないですが、作品と美術館の雰囲気がマッチして楽しめました。 安曇野からの雄大な山岳風景画など大きな作品が多く結構迫力ありました。

    The Sakai collection, as it is called, started with the woodblock prints of sixth-generation Yoshiaki Heisuke Sakai. It was the10th-generation Fujiyoshi Sakai who took the works spanning a period of 200 years and established the Japan Ukiyo-e Museum in 1982 in order to share the precious collection, which includes handwritten works and woodblock-printed books, with the rest of the world. It is the largest collection of 19th-century woodblock prints in the world. It’s a minute by car from the Matsumoto Interchange on the Nagano Expressway.

    A two-minute walk from the Yasuharamachi bus stop and a 15-minute drive from the Matsumoto Interchange. This art museum can be reached by traveling from the Takahashi Family Residence the north of Matsumoto Castle and walking a short distance east along Okachimachi Street. The museum's standing collection consists of 50 pieces by Yasuka Sudo, a painter who created around 1,000 works of art up to the time of his death at age 30 on the themes of light, darkness, and life. The artist's work has won numerous awards at events such as the Tokyo International Mini Print Triennial and the France-Japan Multinational Contemporary Art Exhibition. The museum also holds special exhibitions. Elementary and junior high school students, as well as students attending a high school in the prefecture, can enter the museum for free.

    "Located a five-minute drive from the Suwa Interchange and eight minutes from Chino Station, the Horo Museum is the first museum in Japan to have a permanent display of the works of Kiyoshi Yamashita, the vagabond artist who was affectionately known as ""the Naked General."" Most of his works were collages, but he also painted designs on ceramics, created pointillist paintings, sketches, and more. The opportunity to see so many kinds of his works is the main attraction of this museum. The texture of his collage is distinctive when viewed up close. Some of his works, like ""Niagara Fireworks and Spectators"", which has a fireworks display over Lake Suwa as its subject, or ""Suwa Shrine: Akimiya"", have deep local connections.     Four theater troupes, including Imada Ningyo Shibai and Kuroda Ningyo, in operation continuously for 300 years, continue to preserve and share the history of puppet theater in the Ina Valley. This museum was built to house the puppets donated by Sennosuke Takeda which he had collected from across Japan, as well as to memorialize his achievements. The museum is one of many fun and interesting facilities visitors can check out in the area.

    An art museum which displays wood carvings by Chiharu Ozawa and his son Toshiharu, two renowned folk artists. The museum building is a tatch room structure which was built in the snowy region of Yanma in Niigata and later moved here and remodeled; the hipped roof building mixes both Japanese and Western elements. The spacious museum is filled with more than 1,500 examples of folk art, including decorative frames and basins, boxes of various sizes, partitioning screens, all manner of trays, confectionary boxes, bookends, and magazine racks. The museum's collection of 1,200 wooden sculptures gathered from around the world are also well worth a look. Here visitors can have fun learning about the traditions and history of folk art.

    This museum, attached to the Shinshu-Shinmachi Museum of Art, was opened in December 1993 with the donation of the late Isamu Nishizawa's fossil collection of approximately 6,000 fossils from Shinshu-Shinmachi, Nagano. The museum exhibits a wide variety of fossils from 53 countries and materials related to the geological strata in the Shinshu-Shinmachi area, including the collections mentioned above.

    "When local elementary school students discovered part of a whale fossil in 1986, a large excavation was conducted. They uncovered the ""Shiga Sperm Whale,"" now the museum's main exhibit. Located in northern Matsumoto City, this region is known as a prefectural treasure trove of marine mammal fossils (whales and pinnipeds). It was only the second complete fossil sperm whale skeleton ever excavated along the Pacific Rim, as well as the world's oldest. Fossils of shellfish, fish, and plants are also on display."
