    Located a five-minute walk from Miyanoshita Station, Yamagusuri is a restaurant that has earned praise for its meals centered on wild yams, which are said to be beneficial for both beauty and health. The restaurant is especially fond of its Tororo, made by finely grating the variety of yam known as Sansai no Oja. It offers two kinds of breakfasts centered on vinegar rice and four kinds of lunches centered on barley mixed with rice. The most popular menu item is the Shiko Lunch, which combines Foothills Pork marinated in miso with dried fish produced in Odawara. The restaurant is located on the side of a hill and offers a view of the mountains and waterfalls of Hakone.

    This is a kamameshi (rice, meat and vegetable dish served in a small pot) specialist and day-trip hot spring facility in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture, often featured in guidebooks and television programs. Alongside the eatery is a natural hot spring bathing facility, and during the 40 minutes it takes for the kamameshi to cook one can enjoy the time in the thick Owakudani waters. The kamameshi is a luxuriant mix of chicken meat, fish and vegetables harvested from the mountainside. The baths are paid entry, and it is possible to choose either bathing or meal only.

    Three minutes on foot from Hakone Yumoto Station, this yuba (tofu skin) specialist is located behind a row of souvenir shops. The interior, renovated from a wooden-structured traditional hotel, is a bright, calm and spacious and customers can look out on to the Hayakawa River from the large windows. It is proud of its cuisine using yuba made with the famous water, Himenomizu, from Taiheidai in Hakone and the most well-known dish is the yuba-don bowl. It is a superb, deeply tasty and nutritious dish with bonito stock soup and yuba simmered in an earthen pot and then mixed with egg.

    This restaurant located approximately five minutes on foot from Hakone-Yumoto Station is in a wooden three-story building overflowing with charm on the approach to the Yumoto-bashi Bridge. Built in the early part of the Showa period (late 1920s), it was used as a hot spring lodge and the first floor is open seating while the second floor features private rooms available by reservation. Their famous food is Soun-dofu, made by heating Hakone-Yumoto’s firm tofu in kombu dashi (seaweed stock) and topping with grated Japanese yam flavored with miso. In addition to course offerings, there are also meals and a la carte items, and guests can enjoy creative Japanese cuisine made with tofu and yams.

    A restaurant where patrons can enjoy a meal with the beautiful pampas grass tableland of the Sengokuhara in Hakone Town, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture stretching out before them. The restaurant is renowned for its wappa-meshi and kama-meshi seafood-topped rice made with an abundance of local ingredients like vegetables harvested from the restaurant’s own farm, Fujisanroku pork, Odawara horse mackerel, and Hime no Mizu yuba tofu skin. The most popular item on the menu is the kama-meshi topped with thick cubes of Fujisanroku pork.     Shizukutei is a restaurant in the town of Hakone, Ashigarashimo County, Kanagawa Prefecture that specializes in cuisine based on wild yams. Customers can see the silver grass meadows of Sengokuhara from inside the restaurant. The most popular dish is Mugitoro, made up of the variety of yam known as Sansai no Oja, wheat grown in Fukui Prefecture, and rice grown without agricultural chemicals. The yams used here are selected one by one for having the proper rounded shape and degree of viscosity for Mugitoro. Only pure Eiju no Meisui spring water is used for both washing rice and cooking. Shizukutei has also received high marks for its Jinenjo no Tororo Soba, a noodle dish made with a soy sauce-based yam broth.

    A Japanese style restaurant located near the shore of Lake Ashi. From the windows of the restaurant you can look out at the beautiful scenery of Lake Ashi. The restaurant offers meals including set meals and soba noodles amongst others with a focus on using local ingredients. One popular menu option is the local Lake Ashi specialty Fried Wakasagi (pond smelt). A small heap of 10 such pond smelt are served in a small dish. Their soba noodle options include soba served with grated Japanese yams, a local specialty, as well as soba served with herring, Zaru-Soba served chilled with a dipping sauce, Ten-Zaru-Soba served with fried tempura, and more.
