    Kanagawa Pref. Kamakurashi Yukinoshita 2-1-1 (Tsuruoka Hachimangu Shrine)
    Kamakura Kokuhoukan Museum (“Kamakura National Treasures Museum”) is a history and art museum located within the precincts of the Tsurgaoka Hachimangu Shrine, which was opened in 1928. The exhibits include carvings, paintings, ancient documents etc. donated by local temples and shrines. The museum building is itself designated as a National Registered Tangible Cultural Property.

    Quiet little museum tucked in the outer grounds of Hachimangu that feature mostly Kamakura treasures of all shapes and sizes. Fascinating collection of temple statuary. Well worth seeing out.

    A coastline facing Sagami Bay and one of Kamakura’s most famous beaches. The beach consists of an expansive and shallow shoal extending west from the Nameri River. In the summer, the beach bustles with visitors come to swim. The area was once a quiet fishing town, but with the development of public transportation in the Meiji period, it began to be visited by great numbers of people from Tokyo and other areas. Yuigahama Station on the Enoshima Electric Railway is the closest station.

    An art museum dedicated to collecting watercolors and oil paintings by Kumamoto Prefecture native and artist Yoh Shomei. The museum is located along the route from Kita-Kamakura Station to the Meigetsu-in Temple. Built based on the concept of an old Western-style house which was once the home to a painter and poet father, a gentle mother, a 10 year old daughter, and a five year old son, the museum looks as if it came from the pages of a storybook.

    This botanical garden, a 16-minute walk from the West Exit of JR Ofuna Station, focuses on displaying gardening plants. Filled with beautiful seasonal plants for every season, the garden can be enjoyed year round. In addition to a restaurant and flower market, there is also a lawn area where visitors can enjoy a picnic. Each month, the director puts together a garden walk and provides a guided tour to visitors.

    From Enoshima Electric Railway Kamakura Station, take the Keikyu Bus bound for Zushi Station via Kotsubo and get off at the Zaimokuza bus stop. Zaimokuza Beach is then just a two-minute walk away. The prefecturally operated Zaimokuza Parking Area is also located next to the beach and has spaces for 74 vehicles. Zaimokuza Beach is a sandy beach with very clear waters located along a gentle bay. There is also a kids and family beach area, making it easy for families with children to enjoy a day at the ocean. There are free public showers and public and portable toilets, as well as some 10 beachside clubhouses offering food and relaxation spaces. During swimming season, a variety of events are held at the beach, including fireworks shows and the Suika-nagashi, in which watermelons are set adrift near the shore for swimmers to grab and enjoy.

    In 2015, 35 years after it was opened to the public, the treasure hall of the Hasedera Temple was remodeled and turned into this museum. The museum not only presents the temple's treasures but features as its main exhibit a statue of Kannon which is the temple's principal object of worship. The museum seeks to convey the teaching of Kannon to visitors in an easy to understand manner. The museum's collection includes a statue of Kannon Buddhisattva with 11 Headed which is not only the temple's principal object of worship but also an important historical sculpture, and a collection of 33 avatars of Kannon designated Cultural Properties by the city of Kamakura.

    Genjiyama Park, also known as Shirohata Hills or Hatatate Hills, is home to many sites including the grave of Hino Toshimoto, a statue of Minamoto Yoritomo, and one of Kamakura's Seven Entrances to the Kewaizaka Pass. In the spring you can enjoy the cherry blossoms and in the fall the changing autumn colors. Be advised that the park is hilly so comfortable walking shoes are advised.

    Located in the Hase neighborhood of Kamakura, the Kamakura Museum of Literature was first opened in 1985 by local volunteers. The museum’s has set as its purpose the collection, preservation, and exhibition of literary works, manuscripts, and personal items from writers connected with Kamakura such as Yasunari Kawabata, Ryunosuke Akutagawa, and Jiro Osaragi. The museum building, donated to the city of Kamakura, was once a villa belonging to Toshinari Maeda built off of his main residence and today it is a designated Tangible Cultural Property. There is also a 600 square meter rose garden on the south side of the garden stretching before the museum which, together with the view of the sea off Shonan in front of the museum, is a popular sightseeing spot.

    A 20 minute walk or a 10 minute bus ride from Enoshima Electric Railway Yuigahama Station. A guesthouse operating out of an old Japanese-style home standing quietly in the Zaimokuza neighborhood, an area which once flourished as a port town. This tiny lodging facility has two private rooms and one dormitory-style room. On the weekends, the facility also operates as a café called Café Kamejikan. The café serves home-style dishes made with fresh, locally-grown vegetables. The café is open to non-guests as well and is a popular place for locals to stop by and relax in.

    This strawberry farm is located in 2-Chome, Fueda, Kamakura City. From mid-December to early May, the farm is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, when you can enjoy strawberry-picking without a reservation (based on arrival order). It is the only spot in Kamakura where you can experience strawberry-picking.

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
