    Hokkaido Hakodateshi Suehirochou 19-15
A museum which presents the era when Western fashions and tastes swept the Hakodate area in the Meiji period. Located a one minute walk from Suehirocho Station on the Hakodate City Tram, the museum operates out of a fireproof brick former Western goods shop mixing Japanese and Western architectural styles built in 1880. The building itself is a rare example of structures from that time which survived a great fire in 1907 and has been designated a Tangible Cultural Property by the government of Hokkaido. Inside, you'll find restorations of the shop's own Meiji period shop floor and reception area, dioramas presenting what the town once looked like; and a rare Swiss music box with mechanical dancing dolls said to be one of only a few examples extant in the world.

We visited the Local History Museum on the opposite side of the Hoppou Minzoku Shiryoukan (Hakodate Museum of Northern Peoples) . The museum is housed in a building built in 1880 and refurbished in...

The area is also known for its constantly changing appearance-the colors of the fields change depending on the season and crops grown.

On the farm you can enjoy Farms Chiyoda-reared Japanese Black Wagyu and Biei Wagyu beef at the restaurant, and you can get up close with all the animals during the many scheduled events they have on most days. You can also enjoy wonderful views of the Biei Hills from Chiyoda Hill. There is also a campsite.

This museum is a red brick building built in 1942 as the Nemuro Detachment Office of the Ominato Navy Signal Unit, and presently collects, stores and exhibits materials on the history and nature of Nemuro City and its surroundings. It has precious materials, such as a drawing of a Russian ship drawn when Laxman visited Japan, boundary stones placed on the 50 degrees north latitude line in Karafuto and showed the border between Japan and Russia, and Chishima sea otter specimens.

Had a great tour from a guide who made a great effort to help me understand everything, even using a little English. There is definitely more to Nemuro than meets the eye, some things definitely...

This observation area is located in the south of the hot spring resort along the shore of Lake Akan. Although a ski resort in winter, you can easily make it up here by car in the summer. Overlooking Lake Akan, and with views of Mt. Oakan and Mt. Meakan directly ahead, it’s a wonderfully picturesque spot where you can enjoy the magnificent Akan caldera.

    Hokkaido Kushiro-shi Yonemachi 1-1-21
This is the oldest wooden minka home in Kushiro. It was originally opened in 1900 as a joint home and marine products shop, and has been preserved and opened to the public. The interior recreates the days when Kushiro's fishing industry was thriving, and displays materials related to poet Takuboku Ishikawa, as well as photographs and panel displays dating from the Meiji through the Taisho eras. It's a great place to bathe in nostalgia for Japan's good old days! It gives you a glimpse at the lifestyles of merchants back in the days when Kushiro's economy was booming. It's just past the lighthouse-style observation platform at Yonemachi Park, and free to enter, so people often drop by both.

Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn.
