    This large information center is situated in the almost exact center of Kurokawa Onsen, a hot spring district near the border with Oita Prefecture. The center provides tourist information on Kurokawa Onsen and information on various ryokan inns, etc. The Nyuto Tegata hot spring pass sold here is an essential item for fully enjoying the many atmospheric outdoor hot spring baths found in Kurokawa Onsen. The 30 inns in Kurokawa Onsen and the surrounding woodland scenery are all thought of as one great big ryokan inn, and with this pass you can enjoy visiting the various hot spring baths while saving money. Nyuto Tegata passes are also sold at the various inns in the district.

    黒川温泉の湯巡りで利用。まずはこちらの駐車場に車をとめ、湯巡り手形を購入。1300円で3箇所つかえます。温泉街の地図を見ながら、湯巡りする旅館を確認してから徒歩で湯巡り。終わったあとはこちらで牛乳を購入してひと休みです。

    "This facility consists of a tourist information center and history museum dedicated to ""Kusamakura,"" one of writer Natsume Soseki's most celebrated works. Here visitors can learn about the history behind the novel and the Maedake family through exhibits and informational panels. ""Kusamakura"" was based on Soseki's trip to Oama Onsen and the Maedake Bettei, a local hot spring inn now nicknamed the ""Soseki Inn,"" even makes an appearance in the novel. After restoration work was completed in 2004, the Maedake Bettei, excluding the main building were made open to the general public, and today, everyone who comes here can easily view the detached lodging and bath in which Soseki stayed."

    A tourist center for the former Izumi Village, which had the second largest land area in the prefecture. The facility features cedar boards, symbolizing forestry in the village. It provides tourist information on the Izumi area and sells local agricultural and forestry products. Its restaurant, Jimi Kenjo Rotan, serves cuisine that utilizes local ingredients whenever possible. Fare includes wild boar, venison, konnyaku yam cake that the tofu shop makes, and yamame trout cooked on a hearth. Their Gourmet Fair with a menu that changes with the seasons is popular too. The shop sells local specialties like fragrant Izumi tea and miso-pickled tofu, part of a 700-year old tradition.

    南阿蘇村観光案内所は、道の駅あそ望の郷くぎの内にありました。こちらの道の駅はまだ新しいようで、全体がきれいですが、この案内所も広さもあってきれいです。 広さを生かして、観光パンフレットの展示がゆったりしているので、パンフレット選びもとてもしやすかったです。壁にはマウンテンバイクが展示してあって、レンタサイクルも扱っているようでした。

    真白い屋敷に時代を蘇る数々の農用具、家具、日常用品、また直筆の文献なども展示され、本当に江戸時代へのタイムスリップを実感した。特に庭に古い井戸があり、上から水を落としてから反響が聞こえるまでに必要な時間が長く、深さ42mもあることが印象深かった。

    阿蘇温泉の中心は、阿蘇北外輪山の麓、内牧温泉。 そこの観光案内所ときいて、立ち寄りの湯を探しに行った。 女子職員が、1人だけいたが、応接なし。一般的観光案内パンフとかあったが、 その無関心さに驚く。 NETで、阿蘇温泉観光旅館協同組合のHPを見ると、立ち寄り湯の全体案内があって、よくわかった。
