    This park is situated along Prefectural Route 337. The grounds are known as one of the grave sites of Miyamoto Musashi, a famous swordsman who wielded two swords. The park also has a Japanese garden and teahouse and is also renowned for its Miyakirishima azaleas. A statue of Miyamoto Musashi wearing armor and a helmet stands in the square near the park entrance. Musashi spent his peak years as a swordsman in Kumamoto, and it is said he was buried here along the old Otsu Kaido highway, once used by feudal lords to move to the capital and back every other year as required by law, per his will, which stated he wished to watch over the lords of the domain even after death.

    This campground is situated amidst the great outdoors deep in the Yatani Valley. The campground is replete with high class, two-story cabins and an auto camping site. The cabins have a kitchen and toilet as well as a refrigerator and bath, and the campground also offers a full array of camping equipment which can be borrowed. In addition, the campground boasts a variety of fun play facilities such as a 90-meter-long roller slide and five pools connected by water slides, making this a destination where families can have safe fun.

    "This nature park is known to locals as ""Otomegawara."" The river which runs through the park is shallow and its current gentle, and in summer the park is a popular destination for families with children. In addition to city residents, many people come here from across the prefecture and beyond. One of the park's highlights it the majestic Fragrant Olive of Asobaru, a designated National Natural Monument. Park entry is free but visitors must make an advance reservation by phone or via the park's website."
  • Korogi Blueberry Farm

    This blueberry farm sprawls at the foot of Mt. Aso's southern outer crater. Adjoining the Utase Camping Ground, here visitors can have fun picking blueberries. In most years, blueberry picking is offered from July through early September. The farm also grows some of its blueberries in greenhouses, and customers appreciate the fact that you can pick blueberries here even on rainy days. You can purchase the blueberries you pick to take home. The farm also sells soft serve ice cream and homemade jam made with blueberries.

    This swimming beach commands a view of Mt. Sengan's climbing trail and is located a seven-minute drive from the Matsushima Bus Terminal. Situated in an area rich in natural beauty, the beach consists of a 300-meter-long stretch of white sands. Due to its geographical location, the beach is not well-known in spite of its gentle waves. Accordingly, visitors rave that it has a private beach-like atmosphere. In addition to toilets and showers, the beach is even replete with a clubhouse, ensuring visitor comfort.
  • Hiai Beach (Pearl Sun Beach)

    This swimming beach is one of the largest in Kamiamakusa City. A 300-meter-long stretch of white sands which experiences gentle waves, on clear days visitors to the beach can enjoy a sweeping view encompassing Cape Nagasakibana and Mt. Unzen's Mt. Fugen. In addition, the beach is also famous for its highly clear waters, and visitors can see fish swimming between the rocks. At low tides, visitors can walk to Takamoku Island, visible from the coast. The beach is replete with showers and changing rooms and also has play equipment and cooking equipment rentals. The beach is a popular destination not only in summer as a swimming spot but also year round as a place for beachside walking and picnics.
  • Nakaoyama Nature Park

    A nature park located east of the confluence of the Minamata and Yude rivers. The 333-meter above sea level observatory looks out over the Shiranui Sea. The Nakaoyama Sky Road is a 230-meter long walkway with a view that links the parking lot and observatory. With views of the Minamata cityscape and the Shiranui Sea, it also overlooks cherry and rape blossoms. Around 100,000 cosmos flowers are planted around the foot of the mountain, and lots of visitors come from near and far for the autumn Cosmos Festival.
  • Tomioka Beach

    A roughly 300-meter artificial beach with an offshore breakwater on the Amakusa-nada Sea. Jetties made of natural stone extend along both sides of the beach; with extremely calm waves, it's known for being a safe place to bring children. Tropical fish are visible in the super clear water. In 2006 it was selected as one of the Ministry of the Environment's Selection of Best 100 Beach.
  • Shiroyama Park

    "The park, also known as ""Martyrdom Park,"" is located about 15 minutes by car from Amakusa Airport and is home to the ""Thousand Martyrs Mound"" and the Amakusa Christian Museum, both built in 1956 to commemorate the Christian martyrs. The mounds were originally scattered in Funanoo-cho, Kameba-cho, and Komatsubara-cho, but were relocated and enshrined in their current form. 150 cherry trees are planted in the park, which attracts many visitors in the spring."
  • Shirogahama Beach

    An artificial beach selected as one of the Selection of Best 100 Beach by the Ministry of the Environment. It's Amakusa's busiest beach, with about 100,000 visitors each year. The strip of white sand on the grounds of Roadside Station Ariake Ripple Land is reminiscent of a southern island; from the coast there is a view of the Ariake Sea and Unzen mountains. It was reportedly named after Amakusa Shiro Tokisada who led Christian forces and landed with them on the nearby coast during the Amakusa Shimabara Rebellion. The beach has two break facilities nicknamed Orange Houses. Showers, toilets, changing rooms, and coin lockers are available.
  • Yayamadake Summit Park

    "A park on the 869-meter summit of Mt. Yayama. Known as the ""Little Fuji of Higo,"" the view from this lovely mountain takes in the peaks of Shimabara, Aso, and Gokanosho. As there is little to obstruct the view, the night view of Yatsushiro and Kumamoto is another highlight. On clear nights, you can enjoy stargazing while lying on the lawn. The park has slides, swings, and a playscape. Toilets are available. This park with a beautiful promenade is crowded with families on weekends."

    ラグビーW杯の試合観戦で行きましたが、とても広く、会場回りも公園に囲まれて自然豊かな場所でした。 空港からは比較的近いですが、市内からは少し距離がありました。観戦後は最寄り駅までバスが出たりしていましたが、流れが悪くとても時間がかかり、会場自体はいいけどアクセスがちょっと悪いかなと思いました。 会場に備えつけのロッカーは無い様でした。

    熊本城そばにある市民会館。セミナーのために大会議室に行きました。外観がモダンなので誰の設計か調べたら、佐藤武夫という新橋駅前ビルなどの設計者でした。観光で訪れる場所ではないかもしれませんが、バスのターミナルである交通センターにも近いので近くまで行ったら外観だけでも見ると良いです。
