This museum opened in 2014. To reach it, take a bus for five minutes from the west entrance of Kintetsu, JR, and Ise Railway's Tsu Station and get off at the Sogo Bunka Center Mae stop. It's right there. The museum is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the prefecture. Its main exhibition room depicts Mie's characteristic natural environment around the perimeter of the room, and in the middle presents a comprehensive overview of its people, physical items, and history of cultural exchange. You can also see a fully reconstructed ancient elephant known as the Mie Elephant, consisting of the oldest fossils to be discovered in Mie prefecture. In the back yard there's a reproduction of the Torii Kofun burial mound's stone hut.

This historical museum run by Mie Prefecture is located about a 15-minute walk from Kintetsu Railway's Saiku Station. The place where the museum is built is the site of the palace for the ancient imperial princesses serving at the Ise shrine from ancient times until the period of the northern and southern dynasties (1336-1392). The exhibits are centered on Shinto rituals, history and culture related to the princesses serving at Ise Jingu Shrine. The research results of the townscape at the time based on over 30-year excavation survey of the site are also on display. Special exhibitions and lectures are also held, and among them is a unique one where you can tour an actual site currently being excavated.

This facility is also called the Haniwa-kan. You can reach it by taking the bus from JR and Kintetsu Matsusaka Station that runs counterclockwise around the city. Get off at the Shimin Bunka-kaikan (Matsusakashi) bus stop, and it's right there. There's a permanent display of scholastically important haniwa earthen objects like the boat-shaped Funagata Haniwa excavated from the Takarazuka Burial Mound, a National Historic Site. Its citizen's gallery is in a restored cotton yarn warehouse built in 1923 that was part of the former Kanebo Matsusaka Spinning Factory. The warehouse is a Nationally Registered Tangible Cultural Property, and the interior and the eaves at the front are original.

Inside the Matsusaka Merchant Museum which opened up as a museum in the former residence of Seizaemon Ozu, there is a man-ryo-bako (literally, a box to store 10,000 ryo) rather than the sen-ryo-bako (literally, a box to store 1,000 ryo) and gives one a sense of the influence of the wealthy Ise merchants who had a shop in Edo.

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
