    This Western confection shop, part of the Toshimaya chain, stands opposite the main Toshimaya shop across Wakamiya Oji and offers seasonal cakes and eclairs. Cakes are sold on the first floor while the second floor is a spacious café. The shop’s unadorned cakes are all equally delicious.

    本店の筋向かい、二の鳥居すぐそばにあります。はじめて利用しましたが二階のゆったりしたスペースでおいしいケーキとコーヒーをいただきました。洋栗のモンブラン(650円)はボリュームたっぷりで昼食代わりになりました。一階にはケーキの他鳩サブレーが練り込まれたソフトクリームも売っていて、次回是非試したいと思います。

The souvenir stores, designed in a manner reminiscent of the Edo period, have a large variety of Hakone specialty products and artisan works.

    Ikumama Dobutsu Doughnuts were a sensation on Twitter and have also been featured in the mass media. These charming doughnuts are not only made to delight the eye but are also made with carefully selected ingredients from all over Japan, including fertile eggs, in the interests of safety. The doughnuts are also made with great care to produce a subtle, sophisticated sweetness. The shop also sells limited seasonal varieties of doughnuts and ordinary doughnuts not in the shapes of animals but in a wide range of flavors.

    Smokehouse Hayama has been smoking fish over charcoal and cherry wood chips for over 20 years. They use handmade smokers and hand selects only the finest of ingredients for their smoked goods. Every Sunday they can also be found selling their wares in Hayama Farmers Market.

    燻製といえばベーコン、ソーセージなど肉類やチーズ、ナッツ等のイメージでしたが、アジの干物だけでなくサバの干物、ホタテ、シシャモ、タコのスモークを扱ってます。簡易な用具を買い揃えても自宅ではなかなかできるものではありません。あっぱれです。

    A farmer’s market located a two-minute walk from JR Kamakura Station along Wakamiya Oji. The market first opened in 1928 and is known among locals as the “Renbai,” a contraction of its Japanese name (Nokyorensokubaijo). Local famers sell their goods here on a daily rotational schedule, and both locals and tourists come here to buy fresh vegetables and flowers direct from their producers. In addition to traditional Japanese vegetables, an abundance of Western vegetables are sold at the market, and this expansive selection, popular among local chefs, makes the market definitely worth a visit.

    The Akiya location where this specialty jam chain was first established. Located on the Miura Peninsulafacing Sagami Bay. All of the shop’s safe and delicious products are made with select ingredients, including domestic and especially Miura Peninsula fruits, naturally cultivated plants, organically cultivated crops, and plants grown with reduced amounts of agricultural chemicals. The shop’s origin lies in the jams made with bitter summer oranges just for the Nikura family. Today, the store offers over 40 types of jams carefully prepared with the best sugars. Featured in numerous television shows and magazines, the shop has also been awarded the Yokosuka City Tourism Association’s Chairperson Award.

    This well-established photo shop was founded in 1878 and is counted among the top 10 of such stores in all of Japan. The first-generation owner opened the shop after learning the techniques of photography in Yokohama, and it has continued to do business over four generations as the photography department for Hakone’s famous Fujiya Hotel. It has taken photographs on countless occasions for the Imperial family, state guests, and famous people both Japanese and foreign, and the front of the shop is decorated with photos of John Lennon, Charlie Chaplin, and Hellen Keller, etc. It is popular as a photo shop to take sepia-toned retro commemorative photos. The closest station is Miyanoshita Station.

In addition to its incense sticks, aromatic wood incense, and incense bags, the shop is also renowned for its perfume incense, an incense variety which originated in Kamakura. The shop also engages in a variety of cultural activities and holds fragrance smelling gatherings, incense ceremony classes, and ikebana flower arranging classes.

    This shop is located a four-minute walk from Keikyu Shioiri Station. Established in 1951, the shop specializes in US Navy-style patches and carries some 900 varieties of patches. The shop carries a wide variety of old and new patches, from patches for retired aircraft carriers to patches commemorating the newest forces and even Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force patches. Of particular note, the store carries patches for every unit assigned to the USS Ronald Reagan. The patches for the Tomcat squadrons stationed in Atsugi are also popular.

The market carries souvenirs and renowned products not only from the Chinatown area but also all of Yokohama. Its selection spans some 3,000 items and is the perfect place to drop by if you're looking to purchase some souvenirs. Highlights include Kitsch China merchandise, only available at this market and its sister establishment, the Yokohama Hakurankan; original peach oolong tea; and shark fin soup.

The shop is operated by Teruhisa Kitahara, a famous tin toy collector who has appeared on television. The shop sells original toys and knickknacks inspired by Kitahara's collection. This is the perfect place not only to look for a Yokohama souvenir but also a little present for yourself.

    Founded in 1833, during the Edo period this dye shop was an official shogunate artisan that used indigo dyeing for items like hanten half-coats and war flags. After that, they started to dye tairyo-bata (large fishing flags); this continues to the present day. Everything is carefully hand-crafted and dyed piece by piece with traditional methods used since the Edo period. Various flags are on display in the store, and maguro (tuna) tenugui towels are available as souvenirs. They also hold workshops where you can try dyeing a small version of a tairyo-bata fishing flag yourself. Reservations are required at least two days in advance.

    This is a folk art and craft shop specializing in Hakone mokuzogan wood inlay. The long-standing store once served the Imperial Family and various aristocratic households. The wooden crafts are handmade by artisans who have been training their apprentices since the Edo period, passing down a tradition that transcends the ages. The inviting shop has white walls, a vaulted ceiling, wooden floors, and an old-fashioned wood-inlay transom. Its library is a must-see.

    A shop specializing in the local Yosegi wooden mosaic handicrafts. Within the shop you'll find an assortment of different creations big and small ranging from simple bookmarks to entire chest of drawers. The patterns are made with a variety of different techniques. The method in which the different wood designs are shaved with a plane and then stuck to the box or other object is called Hari-Yosegi but when the wood design is carved into a shape as is it's called Muku-Yosegi. When such a shape is made using a potter's wheel it's called Rokuro-Zaiku (Wheel Craft). This shop features a number of Muku-Yosegi works by master-craftsman Kenji Honma.

Kanagawa prefecture acts as an extension of the Tokyo metropolis that spills over into coastal towns, most notably Yokohama city, heavily populated and known for its Chinatown and seaside attractions. Just the right distance for a day trip out of Tokyo, Kanagawa is home to some of Tokyo’s most accessible beaches, including around Kamakura, best known for its Big Buddha. Visitors can also travel a little farther afield for a weekend at Hakone onsen town.
