This Japanese-style sweet shop is located about 10 minutes from Ise Interchange on the Ise Expressway. Many people, including the locals, love the old-fashioned, simple, and gentle flavors of this shop with a retro atmosphere founded in 1575. Niken Chaya Mochi got its start at the harbor used by pilgrims coming to Ise Jingu Shrine by boat. It features koshian bean jam between thin mochi rice cakes dusted with kinako soy flour. Ise's oldest sweet, it's been handed down over the centuries, and its bamboo leaf wrapping tied with rice straw is elegant. Their brown sugar bean jam mochi rice cakes sold exclusively on the 25th of the month are also popular.

This is a popular Japanese-style sweet shop on the road from Kamakura Station west exit to Zeniarai Benzaiten Shrine. Guests of any age can spend a relaxing time in the simple, refined interior. The courtyard is a Japanese-style garden with benches and arbors. They make each person’s sweet to order, and with this freshness comes a unique elasticity and pleasant feeling of the sweet going down one’s throat. The easy-to-eat “kuzukiri” (kudzu starch noodles) with refreshingly sweet black sugar is a popular option.

This is an old Japanese teahouse established in 1968, around a five-minute walk from the entrance of Komachi-dori Street from Kamakura Station. Rebuilt in 2011, it nevertheless retains the calm and refined atmosphere of the time. The most popular choice is “cream anmitsu” (syrup-covered bean jam) where one can choose ice cream topped with vanilla or matcha powdered tea. The “Ogura Shiratama,” where one can eat many freshly-made doughy shiratama (rice dumplings) is another popular option.

Visitors can also purchase several varieties of dora-yaki such as the strawberry dora-yaki which is only available for a limited season.

A café and sweet shop inside a renovated home located in a quiet residential neighborhood an eight-minute walk from Kamakura Station’s West Exit. This famous shop’s anmitsu (syrup-covered sweet bean jam and fruit), topped with giant, chewy shiratama flour dumplings made with your order, is particularly popular, and both Japanese and international tourists alike line up to enjoy it. With selections like the Uji shiratama cream anmitsu, covered with matcha syrup, and Shiratama fruit cream anmitsu, topped with piles of fruit, you’ll have a tough time choosing.

    Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture Yuigahama 3-2-13
This unusual Japanese café and sweet shop requires visitors to cross the tracks of the Enoshima Electric Railway at Wadazuka Station, despite the lack of a proper railway crossing point. The café’s garden blooms with seasonal flowers such as Japanese apricot, chrysanthemum, and camellias, which, together with the Enoshima Electric Railway running just beyond, creates a stunning bit of scenery. The shop’s mamekan (a sweet dish of peas with kanten jelly) is particularly popular and lovingly prepared with red peas from Hokkaido slowly stewed over three days without breaking the skin. The shop also offers seasonal items such as the summer-only Shiratama azuki (sweet adzuki beans with mochi) and the winter-only inaka shiruko (old fashioned sweet adzuki bean soup) and ankoro mochi (mochi wrapped in sweet adzuki bean paste).

Every month on the 17th, the shop sells Umegae mochi made with ancient rice varieties, while on the 25th it sells Umegae mochi made with Japanese mugwort.
