    加計呂麻島の表玄関、瀬相港にたつ市場。土産物だけでなく、村人相手の野菜なども売っている。サーターアンダギーもあったが、たぶん島のおばぁが手作りで出品しているものではなかろうか（裏の商品説明の紙には個人名もあった）。また島みかんは温州ミカンのようだが種がいっぱい入っていたのがかえって新鮮。多くのものが島で作られたもののよう。パパイヤの漬物、にんにくのつけものなども購入。

    This brown sugar manufacturer is located about a 10-minute drive from Amami Airport towards Naze City. It produces brown sugar exclusively with Amami Oshima sugar cane as well as sweets and processed foods made with local fruit. The attached cafe, Frandor Cafe, serves food made with seasonal ingredients such as brick oven pizzas and seasonal cakes as well as French toast made with pure brown sugar. Guests can enjoy views of the beautiful waters around Amami Oshima Island through the all-glass exterior wall on the side of the cafe that faces the ocean.

    This fresh foods market is located in central Naze City. It offers a wide variety of local fruits and vegetables, fresh meats and seafood, and more. The always-busy shop is a popular place for locals to do their everyday grocery shopping as well as a place for tourists to check out rare ingredients unique to the island. Originally a fruit and vegetable market, it is especially notable for an excellent fruit selecting that includes shima bananas, dragon fruits, fragrant passion fruits, and more. The seafood section's showcases are stocked with whole colorful fish that customers can buy as-is or have prepared by the market's staff.

    This tavern with a conspicuous map of the Amami Islands above its sign is located in Nazeminato-machi, Amami City, a neighborhood with many attractive pubs and restaurants. It offers a diverse selection of brown sugar shochu, the distinctive distilled spirit of the Amami Islands. An entire wall of the tavern is covered with bottles from many famous brands. Each is organized by the island on which it was made, allowing guests to choose the variety that suits their preferences or their mood. The Naze-born proprietor is incredibly knowledgeable about brown sugar shochu, so guests can enjoy asking him about the spirit how is made or about the different flavor tendencies of each distillery. This homegrown establishment, where you are likely to witness the proprietor chatting with regulars, has a relaxing interior with stylings characteristic of Amami.

    A venerable confectionary founded 60 years ago in a town in the southern part of Amami Oshima Island. It began when the founder, who was once a confectioner in Nagoya, used brown sugar from Setouchi to manufacture brown sugar Karinto (a deep-fried snack food made with brown sugar, flour, and yeast). The present owner is from the third generation of his family to operate this shop. Although the shop once made and sold all kinds of confections, it now produces brown sugar Karinto exclusively. The shop opens at 11:30 a.m., but its product is so popular that it is sometimes sold out shortly after noon. Since this Karinto is made with high-quality brown sugar from the neighboring island of Kakeroma and is made by hand according to traditional methods, it makes a fine souvenir of Amami Oshima Island.

    "This is the only brewery on Yoron Island that produces Amami brown sugar shochu. It was founded under American military rule in 1947. It draws up groundwater and seawater from Yoron Island and desalinated soft water with a good taste to use for brewing and mixing. The representative brand ""Yusen"" is loved by the locals to the extent that it has also become synonymous with sake from Yoron Island. While mainly 20% ABV, it is also made in 25% and 35% ABV varieties."

Over 100 active volcanoes across Kagoshima make it one of the Japan's most exciting prefectures.
