Kikko Park is a multi-function park on what was formerly the site of the residence of the Kikkawa family who were the rulers of the Iwakuni Domain, and also the site of the former Yamaguchi Prefectural Iwakuni Upper Secondary School; it has been selected for inclusion in a list of the “Top 100 Most Historic Parks in Japan.” Several buildings of historical importance are located in or near the Park, including the Kikko Shrine, the Ema-do hall “Kin-un-kaku” (a shrine building where votive pictures are hung), and the Mekata Family residence (an Edo period samurai family home), which has been designated as a National Important Cultural Property. The Park is a wonderful place to view seasonal flowers and tree foliage. Kikko Park is around 20 minutes by bus from Iwakuni Station on the JR Sanyo Main Line.

This is a beautiful park, garden, shrine and koi pond at the base of mountain below the Iwakuni Castle. It is free and serene.

"There is a variety of play equipment in this large comprehensive park surrounded by nature in Kuga County, Yamaguchi Prefecture, such as a 255-meter long large roller slide, a mini steam locomotive with a 743-meter long track, as well as a Ferris wheel. It is also home to the largest ""Rose Garden"" in the prefecture and places to play for free. Many families visit during weekends and holidays."

    Yamaguchi Oshima-gun Suooshima Cho Nishimigama
This park is built on the grounds of Otamane Shrine, known for the legend of Princess Hannya. You can see the Seto Inland Sea and the Oshima Ohashi Bridge from the observatory at the foot of Mt. Iino. This is a place of relaxation for local residents, where they can get a close look at the Obatake Seto, which creates magnificent whirlpool tides, and the ships that come and go in it. The cherry blossoms in the spring, cool evenings and rock fishing in the summer are popular, drawing crowds throughout the year. In the park, there are bronze statues of predecessors who contributed to the construction of Oshima Ohashi Bridge.

Yamaguchi Areas

Heading west along Japan’s largest island, Honshu, the very last prefecture you’ll reach is Yamaguchi, separated from Kyushu by a small strip of water known as the Kanmon Straits, which the far-reaching harbor city Shimonoseki looks over. With water at every turn, the seafood of Yamaguchi is an indisputable highlight, and we’re not talking just the usual fish dishes - the notorious fugu, or puffer fish, is a Japanese delicacy that was discovered in Yamaguchi prefecture, making it the best place to try it out.
