    A resort facility dotted with art museums, gardens, restaurants, and more located on a hill in Nagaizumi Town, Sunto County, Shizuoka Prefecture. Visitors can enjoy a broad array of artistic and cultural fields at the facility’s four museums—the Bernard Buffet Museum, the Vangi Sculpture Garden Museum, the Yasushi Inoue Literary Museum, and the Izu Photo Museum. Be soothed by the beautiful flowers and nature in the Clematis Garden and the resort’s nature park, or enjoy an elegant meal at restaurants and cafes which use an abundance of local ingredients to create delicious dishes. The resort shop sells books and souvenirs focusing on the themes of art, flowers, and food.

    毎年この時期に立ち寄りますので、クレマチスが主な開花時期になっています。その為この売店の中にもクレマチスや紫陽花の花が販売されています。紫陽花の花も変わった種類のものがあれば購入しますが、今年はクレマチスの入りはピンク系で花の縁が濃い色になっています。咲くのが楽しみになりました。

    This is a pedestrian walkway that was built over the course of three years starting in 1994 which follows the Katsuragawa River flowing through the center of the hot spring resort near Shuzenji Temple in Izu City. The stone path has a teahouse and a fire watchtower, and in the middle of the bamboo forest offering indelible scenes of Japan is a large bench made of bamboo where visitors can sit down to enjoy the murmuring of the river and the touch of the breeze upon their face. Depending on the season sections are lit up at night, making for an even more magical atmosphere, and this is one of the popular sightseeing spots of Shuzenji.

    This back-to-nature farm-type brewery built was built in 2014 as a place where people can reacknowledge and rediscover the deep connection between beer and nature through brewing and pesticide-free organic farming. It hosts a number of events, including brewery tours guided by its employees. The facility also has a camping area on its grounds where people can enjoy Baird beer together with nature.

  • Old Amagi Tunnel

    Located in the Yugashima district of Shizuoka Prefecture’s Izu City, this is Japan’s first and still existing stone roadway tunnel that is also the longest with a length of 445.5 meters. As a famous tunnel that appeared in the Yasunari Kawabata novel Izu-no-Odoriko (The Dancing Girl of Izu) and the Seicho Matsumoto novel Amagi Goe (Amagi-Pass), it supported the lives of the locals from 1905 until 1970 when the New Amagi Tunnel was completed. The surrounding area is enveloped in virgin forest, and the interior of the tunnel is cool even during summer. Many tourists visit the tunnel during the day.

    About 7 km from the Atami Pass Interchange on the Izu Skyline, the Izu Skyline is a 40.6 km toll road that runs through the Izu Peninsula from Atami Pass to Amagi Plateau, a mountain road offering scenic views of Sagami Bay, Suruga Bay, Mt. The parking lot has a spectacular view of Suruga Bay and Mt. Fuji, and at night you can enjoy the night view of Numazu City and Fuji City along Suruga Bay.
  • Firefly Viewing at the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace

    "This firefly viewing event is held at the Furukawa River Dike about a one-minute walk from the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces. The furnances, a world heritage built at the end of the Edo period, is located about a 10-minute drive from Izu-Nagaoka Station on the Izuhakone Railway. The event, which is entitled ""Hotaru Kansho no Yube,"" is held from mid-May to mid-June. Visitors can see naturally-occurring genji-botaru fireflies (Luciola cruciata). The furnace is lit up at night and its parking lot is opened to the general public free of charge during the event. The venue is also fully wheelchair accessible. The surrounding area is a residential neighborhood, so firefly viewing is only allowed during the event."
  • Izu Amagi Onsenkyo Fireflies (Amagi Firefly Festival)

    This firefly viewing area is located in the Amagi Onsenkyo hot spring village about a 30-minute drive from Shuzenji Station on the Izuhakone Railway on a Tokai Bus and about a five-minute walk from the Yugashima Onsen-guchi bus stop. Visitors can see genji-botaru fireflies (Luciola cruciata) raised by local children around the mountain streams near Deaibashi Bridge, which spans the confluence of Nekko River and Hontani River. The Amagi Firefly Festival held here in early June features attractions such as taiko drum performances by local volunteers. The best time to view the fireflies is around 8:00 p.m. on moonless nights. Some lodging facilities in the hot spring village offer shuttles to and from the event venue. Heike-botaru fireflies (Aquatica lateralis) can be seen in July.

    This is a parking lot on the Izu Skyline, which runs along the mountain ride within Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park. Right before your eyes, you can see the straight valley Tanna Fault, which runs from the Tanna Basin to Tashiro Basin. The Tanna Fault was created by the past repeated activity of the Kita-Izu fault zone. Recently, the 1930 Kita-Izu Earthquake created a longitudinal shift of over two meters. From the parking lot, you can see the scene of the slope of the Taga Volcano dipping gently into the Tanna Basin, then rising up once at the Tanna Fault, and dipping back down again.
