    A series of 1,340 terraced rice fields located on 736 meter tall Mt. Shirakura which has been selected as one of the 100 most beautiful terraced fields in the country. The countless small fields, rising in steps, creates an impressive and amazing sight. The scenery is also distinctly seasonal. When the planting is done, the fields turn green; when the ears shine golden, harvest time is near. Conservation activities are conducted here and a variety of events are held throughout the year, as well as rice-planting mini-classes.

    This famous spot in Ise City, Mie Prefecture is a 15-minute walk from JR Futaminoura Station and featured in one of Utagawa Hiroshige's Ukiyo-e prints. Futami Okitama Shrine is famous for the Meoto Iwa Rocks, said to bestow the boons of prosperity and safety at home and the good fortune of Sarutahiko no Okami, the god enshrined there. The two larger and smaller boulders act as the torii gate usually found at shrine entrances, and the image of them as a pair has led to them being called the Married Couple Rocks. People often pray here for marital happiness and finding the right partner, and from May to July you can see the sunrise, a sign of the season. Futamiura Beach Resort and Sea Paradise are both nearby.

    The largest inhabited island in Ago Bay, it is the base for sightseeing in Oku-Shima. The location of the Ise-Shima Summit, there is also a memorial hall to the summit on the second floor of the Kintetsu Railway Shima Line's Kashikojima Station. It is recommended to enjoy an elegant and comfortable 50-minute cruise on the Esperanza, a cruise ship with a pirate ship motif. It stops at a cultured pearl factory midway, and you can purchase pearls and watch as they place pearl nuclei into pearl oysters. In Shima Marine Land, an aquarium made in the image of ancient ammonites, the large sunfish, penguin petting and red garra (doctor fish) are popular.

    "Ago-wan is a famous bay located on a ria coast with many inlets, in the southern part of the Shima Peninsula in Shima City, Mie Prefecture. Local specialty seafood products include the delicacy called Miru (seaweed), Asari short-necked clam and Iwagaki oyster. There is also a thriving pearl cultivation industry, using the Akoya pearl oyster; during the early years of the Showa period (1926-1989) when cultured pearl techniques were adopted here, this area became known as ""Pearl Bay."" Many islands can be seen in Ago Bay, including Kashiko Island, which was the venue for the 42nd G7 Summit (the ""Ise-Shima Summit"") in 2016. From the observation platforms on Mt. Tomoyama and Mt. Yokoyama, visitors can enjoy some really photogenic scenery."
  • Hadasu-no-michi Pass Route

    This roughly four-kilometer stretch of roadway is part of the ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. The closest stations are JR Atashika Station on the Ise side and JR Hadasu Station on the Kumano side. The course starts from Atashika Town and you pass Hadasu and Odamari before going through the city of Kumano and on to Hananoiwaya-jinja Shrine. It has been designated a Mie Prefecture Mothers' and Children's Natural and Historic Walking Path. Along the way you'll find cobblestone paving from the Kamakura Period, considered to be the oldest on the Iseji portion of the Kumano Kodo. You can also see sites like Jofuku-no-Miya Shrine, which is dedicated to the historic Chinese traveler Xu Fu who came in search of the elixir of perpetual youth, as well as a hollow filled with sacred water. Known as the Water Footprint, it's said to have been left by Kobo Daishi, the founder of esoteric Japanese Buddhism.

    This popular pass at the border of Kihoku Town and Owase City is about 30 minutes on foot from Ouka Station on the JR Kisei Main Line. You can also take a Mie Kotsu Bus and get off at the Washige stop. It's right there. The stone paved path that's said to be the finest on the Iseji portion of the ancient Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route and runs through a forest of beautiful Owase hinoki cypress. Along the way is the Yonaki Jizo, a stone statue of the mythical protector of children that's said to have the power to stop them from crying during the night. Below the pass, Magose Park boasts beautiful cherry blossoms and azaleas from spring to early summer and Japanese clover flowers in the fall. If you come by car you can leave it at Roadside Station Miyama and return by bus from the Ken-Owase-Sogochosha-Mae stop.

    This beach is 15 minutes from Kintetsu's Ugata Station by bus to Shijima, and its white sand beach stretches for approximately three kilometers right from the Ago no Matsubara bus stop. There are colonies of black pine trees near the beach, and you can enjoy the rich landscape of the marine blue ocean, white sand and pine forest. Because it is facing the Pacific Ocean, the waves are relatively high, and the beach is visited year-round by surfers. Several beach houses are open 9:00 to 17:00 from early July to late August. It is well known for being universally designed, with free bathrooms and beach wheelchairs.

    "This statue is located in Hiyamaji, Hamajima-cho, Shima City. The statue stands on top of the sign which states ""Welcome to Shima City"" in Japanese next to Hamajima Regional Welfare Center Sakura-en. Modeled after the Japanese spiny lobsters which are a famous specialty product of Iseshima, the statue is seven meters long and was originally located in Osaka's Dotonbori entertainment district."
  • Japanese Spiny Lobster King Statue

    This statue stands on National Route 260 in Hamajima, Hamajima-cho, Shima City. Modeled after the Japanese Spiny Lobster King, a local mascot character inspired by the Japanese spiny lobsters which are one of Iseshima's famous specialty products, visitors can have fun taking photos with the statue. The statue is decorated with old-fashioned Japanese glass fishing floats and is lit up at night.

    This activity center is situated on Prefectural Route 29 in Yunohara-cho, Matsusaka City. In a mountain village surrounded by abundant natural beauty, the center offers a variety of activity programs, including kon'nyaku devil's tongue jelly making, dyeing fabrics using plant-based dyes, and catching amago land-locked trout by hand. In the center's rest area and local specialty products hall, you can enjoy cuisine made with Matsusaka's famous mulukhiya, edible wild plants, heritage chicken, and other local specialty products.

    "This sculpture is located on the grounds of Dolphin Island, a leisure facility which makes use of an uninhabited island in Ohama-cho, Toba City. Installed in a scenic lookout plaza, the sculpture's theme is ""bonds."" Visitors who come together can ring the statue's small bell to affirm their bonds to each other and take a commemorative photo with beautiful Toba Bay in the background. A nearby shop sells dolphin-shaped locks on which people can write vows and wishes and then place it on the statue."

    "The Shukuura and Tasoura districts in Minamiise Town, Watarai County, Mie Prefecture are collectively known as ""Shukutaso."" Both are fishing towns located at the entrance to Gokasho Bay, and there are thriving skipjack tuna deep-sea fishing and Japanese spiny lobster fishing industries here. Visitors can take in the beauty of Kazura Island and other islands floating in Gokasho Bay, and the scenery of Ago Bay on the east side."

    This bamboo forest is located in Kodono-cho, Owase City. The forest consists of moso bamboo transplanted here during the Edo period from the bygone Satsuma Domain by Doi Hachirobei, the seventh head of an Owase forestry family. Today, the forest spans 4,000 square meters, and some of the bamboo trees growing here have trunks which are over 30 centimeters in diameter.

Visitors can stroll amidst townscape which retains much of the charm of a traditional, old-fashioned fishing town. The Funa Danjiri, a festival to pray for good catches which has been performed since the Edo period, is also held here in January.

    "The Nishishonai-cho district in Suzuka City is known as ""Suzuka Hotaru no Sato"" (literally ""Suzaka Firefly Village"") because of the large numbers of fireflies which naturally inhabit the area. From late May through late June each year, visitors can watch fireflies dancing in the rural night air, and during this time a firefly festival is held in the area as well. In most years, the peak time to see the fireflies is from early to mid-June."

    芸濃インターあたりの幹線から山間に向けて少しく進んだあたりにかなり大きな施設が現れます。野菜・加工品や花卉の直売、フードコート等を備え、相当広い駐車場を擁しています。近隣にJAや「ヤマギシ会」の直売所等、生鮮に秀でたローカルスーパー「マルヤス・ベーシック」もあり競争は激しいです。品揃えの幅広さはありますが、品質、価格とも凡庸で繰り返し訪問したいか、と問われれば否、かもしれません。

Spread across the eastern side of the Kii Peninsula, Mie prefecture boasts hundreds of kilometers of pretty coastline comprising the oyster-rich Toba city and Shima National Park all the way down to Kumano, a city that marks the beginning of part of the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage, which runs into neighboring Wakayama prefecture. However, Mie is best known for the Ise Jingu Shinto shrine inland, one of the oldest and largest shrines in the country.
