This nature park is located inside the Showa no Mori Center commercial complex attached to Roadside Station Amagigoe along National Route 414. It is about a 60-minute drive from Numazu Interchange on the Tomei Expressway or Nagaizumi-Numazu Interchange on the ShinTomei Expressway. A gently-sloping promenade has been built along the mountain's slopes. Visitors can enjoy taking a stroll while listening to the chirping birds. The park blooms with many of the exemplary flowers of Amagi including Korea rhododendron (Rhododendron mucronulatum) and ebine orchids (Calanthe discolor). The most stunning of all are the 13,000 rhododendrons representing some 500 species that come into peak bloom from mid-April to late May. A Rhododendron Festival is held in the park during Golden Week in late April and early May.

Shizuoka Areas

around-area-map

With the giant Pacific Ocean to the south and the great Mount Fuji to the north, Shizuoka prefecture is blessed with some of the best views the country has to offer. The white sand beaches of the Izu Peninsula are a rare find on mainland Japan, neighbored by beautiful cliffs, tumbling hills, and natural hot springs. As Japan’s largest producer of green tea, the age-old tradition of tea drinking is ubiquitous in Shizuoka, from the miles of tea fields to the old tea houses hosting traditional tea ceremonies.
