    The largest cable-stayed bridge in the Japan Sea region, the Shinminato-ohashi Bridge links the east and west coasts of Toyama Shinko port in Imizu City, Toyama Prefecture. It is 3.6 kilometers long, with the main section suspended over the sea coming in at 600 meters and the main tower 127 meters tall. The contrast between the blue sea and white tower is splendid, as is the view of the sprawling Japan Sea, the Tateyama mountain range, and the Noto Peninsula from the elevated road and the walkway on the lower level.

    This shop on the first floor of the CiC Building near JR Toyama Station specializes in local products and souvenirs. Some of its most popular products include slowly-grilled Shiroebi Juwari Senbei (broad velvet shrimp rice crackers) and Shiroebi Kakiage (broad velvet shrimp tempura). The shop carries a selection of Toyama souvenirs such as Kit Kats made with the famous Toyama sake Masuizumi, as well as Hangontan, a famous confection made to look like an Etchu-Toyama kusudama (decorative paper ball). It also offers marine products such as wild-caught Japanese amberjack and firefly squid, curry made with Himi-gyu beef, local Etchu Toyama sake, Unazuki beer, and more. The shop also holds periodic events such as farmer's markets offering locally-grown vegetables, bread sales, and so on.

    Toyama Nanto-shi Nishiakaomachi 825
    This temple was opened at the end of the Muromachi period, by abbot Rennyo's leading disciple Akao Doshu. Must-sees include the thatched roof Sanmon gate, built about 300 years ago, and the monk's quarters particular peaked, gabled roof architecture. The Doshu Itokukan heritage museum exhibits treasures connected to Doshu and paintings by Munakata Shiko.

    西赤尾のバス停前にある浄土真宗のお寺。国指定重要文化財の岩瀬家の隣です。寺に隣接している遺徳館は、残念ながら冬季休館中でした。茅葺の山門が歴史を感じ、趣あります。本堂へは雪と雪囲いもあり、これまた残念ながら、本堂前までは行けませんでした。

    A murodo is a hall where mountain ascetics stay and pray. This murodo located along the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route is said to be the oldest mountain hut in Japan. It was actually used as a base for climbing Mt. Tateyama, Mt. Tsurugi, and other mountains in the area as late as the 1980s. An archeological excavation conducted when the building was disassembled for repairs discovered evidence of its role as place of worship from around the 12th, confirming that it has been in use since the Kamakura Period. The current building is a reconstruction built in 1726 and has been designated as a National Important Cultural Asset. It was built using wood from the virgin forests of Bijodaira. How the wood was carried here is still wrapped in mystery.

    "This convention center is notable for its exterior, which features glass walls and wooden lattice screens. Located just south of Toyama Castle Ruins Park, the center is also known by the nickname ""Otemachi Forum."" The third and fourth floors house a fan-shaped main hall with room for up to 825 people. The center offers simultaneous interpretation in six languages and can be also be used as venue for international conferences. The foyer leading to the halls can be used for events such as concerts and buffet parties sent in front of the backdrop of Toyama Castle Ruins Park. The first floor has an exchange gallery for citizens to enjoy that is also used for community events."

    This art museum exhibits works of Inami woodcarving, the traditional handicraft of Inami. Modeled after the layout of Zuisenji Temple, the museum building completely surrounds a central courtyard. Inside the museum, which was designed to capitalize on natural light, more than two hundred works of traditional handicraft and Inami woodcarving are on display and available for sale. In some cases, you can even see the craftsperson actually carving the pieces. Among the many abstract works of art on display, including partitioning screens?, lion masks, and carvings of Tenjin, the most stunning works are the transoms featuring kasanebori carvings, which are layered to create a three-dimensional effect. In all, the museum is a great place to enjoy the history and beauty of Inami woodcarving. The capsule vending machine offering lion-dog wood carvings is popular with people of all ages.

    井波彫刻バスを使って行きました。実際彫刻をされている方々の様子も見ることができ、興味深かったです。お土産物屋さんで買ったお饅頭がおいしかったです

    Ikenami Shotaro is an author responsible for popular historical novels such as Onihei Hankacho, Kenkaku Shobai, and Shikake-nin Fujieda Baian, He often visited Inami as his home town with familiarity and attachment. The exhibits here offer documents, self-portraits, autographs, photographs, and more that demonstrate the depth of communication between Ikenami Shintaro and the people of Inami, as well as books by the author and items loved by him.

    父方の祖父が井波出身とのことで、井波と縁のあった池波正太郎の記念館。八日町通りにあるよいとこ井波に併設されています。入館料は無料で、池波正太郎と井波の関わりなども展示されています。

    This hall exhibits tools related to Gokayama's three major industries of the Edo period: niter, sericulture, and washi paper. On the Ainokura gassho-style- village construction's designation as a national Historic Landmark in 1969, this museum was opened to collect folk materials from the region and display items related to the lifestyle nurtured by the local topography. It uses gassho-style old private home.

    相倉合掌造り集落の駐車場から一番奥まったところに位置しております。メインの散策路から少し離れており、見過ごしてしまいそうです。相倉民俗館とは異なり、五箇山の主要産業であった塩硝、養蚕、和紙づくりの道具などが展示されています。

    Gokayama Washi-no-sato (Traditional Paper-making Workshop) is the alternative name for Road Station Taira, a roadside rest area in Gokayama village, Toyama Prefecture. Gokayama Washi-no-sato features a “Washi Paper Craft Hall” that presents the history of traditional Japanese paper-making, which has been an important industry in Gokayama since ancient times, as well as a “Paper-making Experience Hall” where visitors can try making Gokayama-style paper for themselves inside a traditional Gasshozukuri-style farmhouse (experiential activities can be booked on the day of your visit). There is also a retail area selling local specialty products, a restaurant, etc., making this a great place to drop by while driving in the area.

    This art museum, opened in 1993, is focused on the private collection gathered overseas by Nishida Ansei of Fuji Chemicals. It is outfitted with four different galleries filled with artifacts like pottery, Buddha statues, and Russian icons gathered from China, Gandhara, Persia, Greece, Egypt and other lands connected by the ancient silk road. They also have temporary and special exhibits.

    円空×田中一光展でお邪魔しました。 円空の仏像はまず貸出されないらしく、館長の人脈で数年がかりで実現したそうです。 町外の方にはあまり知られていない美術館ですが、行ってみると面白いものが見れます。 入館料は600円です。

It offers education about Gokayama's history and culture since primitive times, including its industries of niter and silk production. It also displays pieces during the National Washi Chigiri-e (torn-paper art) Exhibition.

    モダンな合掌造りのような大きな屋根が印象的です。道の駅たいらの駐車場から長い階段を上って入館しましたが、郷土館のすぐ横に駐車場がありました。建物の中央には、竪穴式住居が造られています。五箇山伝統産業の養蚕と硝煙について興味深く見ることはできました。

    This roadside station in Miyazawacho, Tonami City, Toyama Prefecture is a five-minute drive from JR Johana Line Tonami Station. Its restaurant, Tonami Sodachi, offers cuisine made with ingredients from Tonami and Toyama Prefecture, such as their Okado somen noodle set meal and their Tonamino onion curry set meal lunches. At dinner, the restaurant offers banquet-style dinners featuring dishes such as butamotsu-nabe (pork tripe hot pot) and shabu-shabu (hot pot) made with Toyama grown pork.     This facility exhibits models of the world's great sailing ships. The exhibitions start in the powerful entry hall, where displays show materials related to the sea, ships, and port, as well as the development of ocean floor mineral development, and the whole museum offers a chance to see, know, and learn about the sea from a variety of perspectives. They also offer different cultural classes about the sea and other topics.

    世界の帆船の模型に加え、SDGsに関する展示、伏木富山港の沿革や経済的意義の説明といった専門的内容の展示施設だった。海事船舶関係に興味がある大人であれば、楽しめるかな?といった感じの施設だった。

    A small village surrounded by a riverbed on three sides in Suganuma, Nanto City, Toyama Prefecture. The village consists of nine gassho-zukuri style homes with steep thatched roofs as well as old earthen-walled storehouses and other structures surrounded by rural scenery. Here visitors can get a taste of old Japan. There’s a museum where you can learn about the history and traditions of Gokayama and come in contact with the harsh climate of the area and the simple lifestyles of the people who live here. The village is registered as part of the Ainokura Gassho-style Village World Heritage Site. The buildings of the village are also lit up differently each season at night.

The 15th day of each month is “TOYAMARCHE Day,” on which various special products and exclusive goods are available.

    The station stands as if jutting out from the eastern cliff of the Tateyama Mountain Range. It was built by transporting materials by helicopter. From the observatory on the rooftop of the station building, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Ushiro-Tateyama Mountain Range and Lake Kurobe. It is also famous for its autumn leaves, and the view from the ropeway, usually from mid-September to early October, is truly magnificent.

    In winter when the road around Murodo Terminal is cleared, walls of snow on either side are created. The 500-meter continuous stretch of snow walls has come to be called the Snow Corridor. The huge walls of snow reach close to 20 meters high and are slowly carved out by bulldozers over around a month-long period. During the Tateyama Kurobe Snow Corridor Walk held each year only from mid-April to late June, many tourists come here from across the country and even the world to see and touch these stunning walls of snow up close.

    This sightseeing boat operates on the Shogawa Gorge between Komaki Dam and Omaki Onsen. The Shogawa River boat dock is a 20-minute drive from Tonami Interchange. Passengers can enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings to their hearts content while also taking in the seasonal scenery. Two courses are available; the Omaki Onsen Course, a relaxed one-hour long round trip, and the shorter Nagasaki Bridge Tour Course. The company also offers a number of special seasonal cruises and is seeing increasing numbers of travelers from abroad.

While traditional crafts fill the northern coastal cities of Toyama and Takaoka, thatched roof houses offer unrivalled views against a backdrop of fantastic scenery at Gokayama in the mountainous area in the south of the prefecture.
