"A five-minute walk from Shimbashi Station, the History Exhibition Hall has a modern facade that retains features from the Meiji period. Opened in 1872, Shimbashi Station was Japan's first railroad terminal. A reproduction has been built on the same location. Nationally designated as the Old Shimbashi Station Historic Site, the area below the station is well preserved. Part of the first floor is glass-sided so visitors can view it. The station building's stone platform and ""mile zero"" marker demonstrate the station's history and offer a retro enclave in the heart of the city."

It moved to the present location in 2015. "The former residence of Jiro Shirasu and his wife, Masako. Shirasu played an important role in post-World War II diplomacy in Japan. On a hill in verdant Tsurukawa, it has a museum, restaurant, and cafe on site. Once known as ""the coolest man in Japan,"" he studied English at Cambridge University, and was said to have argued with GHQ (General Headquarters of the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers), even standing up to MacArthur. Although women had been barred from performing traditional Noh theater, she appeared on stage and was so successful she even had a stage name. This museum, located inside Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, is Japan's first dedicated to displaying materials on the ancient Orient. Designed to be a facility where visitors can learn about history by actually seeing it, exhibits include stone tools used by ancient peoples, recreations and models of ancient settlements, clay vessels and handicrafts exchanged between East and West excavated from archeological digs, and numerous priceless artefacts exhumed in Syria. There's also a movie room where you can watch a short video summarizing the history of the area from the origins of civilization through to the time of the Silk Road. One of the world's few museums dedicated to volcanoes. With a focus on records pertaining to Izu Oshima's 1986 eruption, visitors learn about volcanism, volcanic disasters, and disaster preparation. The eruption of Mt. Mihara at the center of the island was the first in 565 years as such a large-scale natural disaster that developed into a fissure eruption on the outer crater. The island had an unprecedented evacuation of the entire population, and records pertaining to it are considered crucial for future disaster preparation. Through various exhibits and a capsule that simulates exploring beneath the earth's surface, you learn more about the island's still active volcano and others around the world.

The woodblock prints, banzuke (official listings of rank), and ceremonial aprons are sure to delight not only sumo fans but foreign visitors and children alike. In addition to exhibits that change at a pace of six times per years, photos of yokozuna (grand champions) adorn the museum as a permanent exhibition. Admission to the museum is free (though during the three Grand Sumo Tournaments held in Tokyo annually the museum is open only to people actually attending the tournament).
