This museum is dedicated to generals and samurai of the Warring States period. There are displays of armor and swords by period, and explanations of the origins of the samurai. You can also rent armor to get your picture taken as a samurai! It's very popular with tourists from overseas. They also have an attraction letting you join in a sword battle, as well as lots of events like sword preparation and calligraphy classes. They also sell souvenirs and gifts like replica armor.

Very engaging and interactive experience at this museum! The guides were very knowledgeable on the history but also had really cool activities at the end (ninja and samurai) to make it a good...

Tokyo Shinjuku-ku Nishiwaseda 1-6-1 Waseda Campus 2 Building
A museum in the No. 2 building on the campus of Waseda University. Aizu Yaichi was an Asian art researcher, poet, and calligrapher who also served as a professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Waseda University. The museum displays Yaichi's collection of historical Asian art as well as archeological materials and Ainu folk items. Particular collection highlights include Yokoyama Taikan's Meian and Seison Maeda's Roma Shisetsu. The building is old reinforced concrete, but it is decorated with design touches in every corner, including octagonal carving in the large front doors, hexagonal pillars capped with beautiful capitals, and moon motifs below the handrails in the stairwells.

A two-minute walk from Omokagebashi Station. This museum, situated along the Kanda River just left of the north side of the Nakano Bridge, is operated by Tomita Some-Kougei, a longstanding dyeing company established in 1882. Here you can see examples of traditional Tokyo Some-Komon (fine-patterned dyeing) and Edo Sarasa (silk calico), as well as purchase chic and modern dyed crafts. The museum also holds dyeing activities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the third Saturday of the month in which you can dye fabric and have it made into a fukusa wrapping cloth; with an advance reservation for a group of 10 or more people, you can also do this experience on weekdays.

In an age of digital projector planetariums, here you can experience the fun of an old-fashioned optical planetarium. Optical planetariums are still the most common type in Japan and work by shining a bright light behind plates pierced by countless small holes, projecting their patterns on the planetarium dome. This particular planetarium displays around 8,500 stars and planets in an analog recreation of the night sky. Shows are usually only held on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays (excluding special events). One of this planetarium's charms is its live shows, narrated in real time by a live presenter.

Tokyo Areas

around-area-map

The setting of countless iconic movie scenes and the inspiration for songs, poetry, and literature worldwide, Tokyo barely requires an introduction. It’s hard for the kaleidoscopic neon lights, wacky pop culture, and some of the world’s tallest structures not to instill excitement in any first-time visitor to Tokyo, whether you’re in the very center of the hustle and bustle in Shinjuku or Shibuya or looking in from the quieter suburbs.
