    Established in 1877, this is Japan’s largest general science museum. The permanent exhibitions include the Global Gallery, which focuses on the history of life on earth and traces the progress of humankind as well as science and technology, the Japan Gallery, which details Japan’s nature and the history of the Japanese people, and Theater 360, which screens films that can be seen in all directions, 360 degrees around. Special exhibitions are held several times throughout the year, and it is a very popular spot with many people lining up to visit the museum even on holidays.

    This is a national museum located within Ueno-onshi-koen Park that was established in 1872. Five buildings including the main building serve as exhibit halls, although it has several other facilities such as archives. With an enormous number of collections, it has accumulated over 116,000 items of Oriental art and ancient relics, mostly from Japan. A great number of National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties are also included inside. The museum also holds special exhibitions that run three to five times a year.

    Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum is a specialist geology and paleontology museum, focused particularly on dinosaurs, which is located in Katsuyama City, Fukui Prefecture (an area where many dinosaur fossils have been found). More than 40 complete dinosaur skeletons are on display, enabling visitors to get a feel for just how big dinosaurs were. The Museum also has large-scale dioramas and a computer graphics theatre that recreate the type of prehistoric forest in which dinosaurs lived, giving visitors a sense of having “traveled back in time.” Both adults and children can enjoy learning about the history of the Earth through the dinosaurs’ story.

    A museum which presents the history of the city of Kure, which prospered as a shipbuilding town and which was the location where the battleship Yamato was built as well as numerous large tankers which served after the Second World War. A one tenth scale Yamato battleship model stands in the Yamato Hiroba in the museum and is the centerpiece of the museum’s exhibits. The first floor exhibition room presents historical materials relating to Kure from the end of the shogunate government up through Japan’s postwar period as well as a real Zero Fighter Type 62 and a Kaiten Human Torpedo Type 10. On the third floor, visitors can learn scientific and technological principles with a focus on ships via interactive exhibits such as a ship piloting simulator. The “Kaigun-san no Curry,” traditional Japanese naval-style curry sold in the museum shop, makes a popular souvenir.

    This is a comprehensive science museum located in Nagoya City. The building is characteristic for its unique external appearance which seems to be embracing a giant sphere. The museum is largely composed of three main buildings, the Life Science Building, which features exhibits about the human body and life on earth, the Astronomy Building, which features astronomy and the mysteries of space, and the Science and Technology Building featuring exhibits related to science and physics. The sphere is actually the Brother Earth planetarium, the world’s largest which projects a large starry sky on the dome. There are also large exhibits popular with both children and adults such as a room with a temperature of -30 degrees Celsius where visitors can experience an aurora and a corner to experience an artificial tornado.

Special exhibits are also held regularly which give visitors the chance to view rare drawings and other materials never allowed to leave the museum.     This food theme park, which opened in the Shin-Yokohama district in 1994, was built around the concept of being able to eat ramen from all over the country without having to fly there. The interior, which recreates a Showa-period retro townscape, hosts famous ramen shops from not just all over Japan but from around the world. Attractions other than eating ramen include a gallery featuring exhibits on the history of ramen, a museum shop that offers souvenir ramen kits, a retro candy shop, events including live music, street performances, and picture story shows, and more. It is located a five-minute walk from JR Shin-Yokohama Station.

    This castle of the old Fukuchiyama feudal domain in Fukuchiyama City, Kyoto Prefecture is a fortress which belonged to a powerful clan was once known as Yokoyama Castle. It was reconstructed by Akechi Mitsuhide in 1579, who renamed it to Fukuchiyama Castle. Once completed there was a castle tower and various other buildings, but after the castle abandonment orders of the Meiji period many were demolished. Just the stone wall, copper gatehouse and the Toyoiwa-no-i Well remain their original Edo period appearance. The current castle tower was rebuilt in 1986, and the inside was opened as a museum.

    This museum collects materials and personal items relating to the special attack unit (kamikaze unit) active at the end of World War II. The museum was erected on the site of a former launch base with the aim of preserving records of the time for future generations and in a prayer for peace. Parties of 10 or more can listen to a storyteller with advance reservation. The museum also provides English, Chinese, and Korean audio guides. A five-minute walk from the Tokkokannon-iriguchi bus stop.

    This is a national science museum on Odaiba island. The permanent exhibits cover a broad range of subjects from the simple science questions to those regarding the latest technologies including the earth environment, space exploration, and the wonders of life. The dome shaped theater that plays 3D science films and other three-dimensional planetarium presentations is very popular. The director of this museum is the famous astronaut, Mamoru Mohri.

    Permanent exhibition included many hands-on excercises. ISS space station module was quite illustrative. Interesting building. Though maybe a bit more targeted to students & children.

    Shiroi Koibito Park is a theme park where you can tour the production plant for Shiroi Koibito, a well-known confectionary that is symbolic of Sapporo (an entry fee is charged). There are also hands on activities such as a course in drawing pictures on the Shiroi Koibito, which can be enjoyed by children and adults. The Shiroi Koibito Park is packed full of areas where you can experience things first hand such as a lounge where you can enjoy the sweets in a space surrounded by English antiques as well as a candy lab where you can watch demonstrations by candy craftsmen. There is also a beautiful rose garden which presents different aspects in summer and winter.

    This museum in Kobe is characterized by its unique structure which is meant to resemble waves and the sail of a ship. Focusing on the history of Kobe Port the exhibits introduce the facilities and roles of the port. There are also a large number of ship models that show off everything from the charms of a cruise ship to the inner workings of the vessel in an easy to understand manner. The attached Kawasaki World Museum, run by the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Group, tells you about the history of the company and allows you to see, touch, and experience everything from their first machines that crossed land, sea, and sky, to their latest technological advancements. With actual copies of the 0-Series Shinkansen Bullet Train, as well as motorcycles, helicopters, and industrial robots as well as hand-on simulations there's something for everyone from kids to adults to enjoy.

    Went there to visit. This is truly a place to enrich your knowledge of ports, ships and technology. When we passed by it at night, it looks very beautiful.

The museum displays numerous historically momentous articles such as an ink painting by the famed Kano Masanobu, a designated National Treasure, and the original manuscript of the ancient epic Eiga Monogatari. The museum’s rounded 160 meter by 80 meter building is large enough to fit an entire international regulation soccer field, making it best to schedule plenty of time for one’s visit.     This is a museum which opened in Nara City in 1895. The “Nara Buddhist Sculpture Hall (in the main building)” which was designed by the court architect, Katayama Tokuma is a Western-style architectural structure from the Meiji period and has been designated as an Important Cultural Property. There are four exhibition halls in the museum, with the museum’s collection focusing on Japanese Buddhist art from the Asuka period up until the Kamakura period. In addition, a great number of National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties are among the artifacts held and exhibited at the museum. The museum is famous for opening an exhibition of “Shosoin-ten” (Exhibition of Shosoin Treasures) in Autumn every year.

    Nara National Museum held special exhibitions periodically. Entry fee required but the artifacts displayed thereat were valuable. Worth the visit.

    This railroad museum located in the Minato Ward of Naogya City is based around the Tokaido Shinkansen yet also introduces high-speed rail technology in use from conventional trains to superconducting magnetic levitating trains (SCMaglev). The museum has 39 real train cars on display including the MLX01-type linear motor car that was displayed at Expo 2005 Aichi Japan, and visitors can even enter some of them. There is a railroad diorama and also numerous display corners where visitors can learn about train history and technology through exhibits. The Shinkansen and conventional train simulators (chosen by lottery) are very popular. There is also a very dynamic mini theater where visitors can experience a simulated world of a SCMaglev train cruising at a speed of 500 kilometers/hour.

    This is an outdoor museum that exhibits historical buildings reconstructed from the metropolitan Koganei Park. It was established as an annex of the Edo-Tokyo Museum. In this museum, there are more than 30 restored buildings that date back to the Edo and early Showa periods. In the Center Zone are several reconstructed buildings such as Jisho-in Mausoleum (Otama-ya) and the residence of Takahashi Korekiyo who was assassinated in the 2.26 Incident. There are also reconstructed houses from Yamanote at the West Zone and at the East Zone visitors can enjoy a traditional neighborhood atmosphere with stores, public baths, and bars.

The exhibition content is arranged in a way that is easy for both adults and children to understand, focused mainly on models, images and replicas. The permanent exhibit also features a diorama of the entire silver mine and actual silver ore that can be held. A limited guided walking tour of the mine’s largest tunnel “Okubomabu” is also popular.
