The Kita no Daichi no Aquarium, which is the first in Japan to have a waterfall basin tank, lets you experience riverside living creatures from the great northern land. Phantom freshwater fish Japanese huchen are raised and kept here, growing up to just about one meter in length. Please enjoy a look at the freshwater fish from around the world raised on Onne's water. From JR Rubeshibe Station, it takes about 20 minutes by bus headed for Roadside Station Onneyu Onsen. Get off at the final stop and walk two minutes. It is about 2 hours 20 minutes by car from the Asahikawa Airport.

The aquarium was compact, and the tanks were clean and worth looking at. We did not realise that we couldnt see the fish under the ice as this is a seasonal display as the tank is outside and we...

Here at the Noshappu Aquarium, the northernmost aquarium in Japan which was the 100th aquarium to be built, you can see many sea creatures from the north. Things to see include the powerful 90 ton water tank and 600 Pacific herrings. Other recommended attractions are the seal show and animal feeding. It was a petite aquarium. We brought our 3 toddlers and a baby here since it was rainy day. Although the tour was very short, about 2 hours; but our kids enjoyed looking at the big octopus, the...

There's also a petting pool where visitors can touch skates and horseshoe crabs, a Ferris wheel, merry go round and other attractions throughout the park.

Decided to try this place after reading the reviews. Cod fish curry is good as others have mentioned. Also ordered pizza and salad. Reasonably good too. Was quite busy during lunch time but very...

Hokkaido Areas

around-area-map

Not just a prefecture but an island of its own, Hokkaido is the most northerly prefecture and island of the Japanese archipelago. Arriving in Hokkaido, which is rural and bursting with breathtaking nature, means entering a world where vast national parks, towering mountains, and natural hot springs can be found at every turn. Come December, these natural splendors freeze over and morph into a winter wonderland.
