    Miyazaki Nobeoka-shi Higashihonkoji
"This flatland-mountain castle was built on a sandbar sandwiched between the Gokase River and Ose River in 1603 by Takahashi Mototane, the first lord of the domain. The highlight of the ruins is the ""1,000 enemy-killing"" stone base, so-called because it is said that the base would collapse and kill 1,000 enemies if one attempted to remove its stones. In addition to this 22 meter high imposing structure, there are also more than 300 cherry trees planted in the area, and in spring the castle ruins and surrounding park are practically covered with cherry blossoms. Other highlights include the Shiroyama Bell, which was used to notify the townspeople of the time from the Meiji period; and a monument inscribed with a poem by Bokusui Wakayama. Some 3,300 Japanese camellias spanning 108 varieties also grow on the grounds, making this one of the three largest Japanese camellia colonies in Japan. There are even academically rare varieties mixed in."

This park is located a 15-minute drive from Hyugashi Station. Situated halfway up 192-meter-tall Mt. Komenoyama, the park boasts a 2.6 hectare grass lawn and offers a sweeping view of the deep blue Sea of Hyuga. An outdoor music dome is located in the park and is used to host events on weekends and holidays. As the mountain is also used as a paragliding practice ground, if you're lucky you may get to see paragliders taking off from the peak.

An unmissable highlight of Kyushu, Miyazaki prefecture satisfies nature lovers with its dramatic gorges cut out of rugged cliffs, leading into waterfalls and beaches of green-blue water popular among surfers. Takachiho Gorge in the north of the prefecture tells a tale of centuries-old Japanese mythology in a fantastic setting, allowing visitors to explore the waters by boat before heading up to the cave at the Awano Iwato Shrine, where the sun goddess was said to have hidden, plunging the world into darkness.
