Fukuoka Pref. Fukuokashihakataku Shimokawabatamachi 3-1 Riverain Center Building 7F/8F
This is the only art museum in the world dedicated to modern and contemporary art from Asia. The museum engages in initiatives befitting the city of Fukuoka, which has long served as a point of exchange in Asia, such as workshops hosted by artists invited from throughout Asia. Events and exhibitions are held as the occasion demands; accordingly, visitors are encouraged to check the museum’s website for current information.

The collection is small, and mostly focused on Asian art from the 1800’s to present. There isn’t much in the collection that is native to Japan, mostly other Asian countries.

This art museum is located an eight-minute walk from JR Mojiko Station. It has a modern and nostalgic exterior, does not have permanent exhibits, and holds exhibitions from five to six times a year centered on Japanese paintings and Chinese and Japanese ceramics. It also has the Idemitsu Founding History Room that follows the life of Idemitsu Sazo, the founder of Idemitsu Kosan who opened the museum. There are seven corners that introduce the footsteps of Idemitsu Sazo and his respect for life and dignity.

The Idemitsu Museum of Arts is indicated on the Guide Map of Mojiko Retro Town as, a private museum exhibiting mainly works of art from the personal collection of Sazo Idemitsu. When I visited...

Fukuoka Pref. Kurumeshi Nonakamachi Within 1015 Ishibashi Cultural Center
An art museum which collects and displays Japanese modern Western-style paintings, calligraphy, and ceramics. Donated to Kurume City by Shojiro Ishibashi, a locally born businessman who founded the Bridgestone Tire company (the predecessor of the Bridgestone Group), the museum is also sometimes referred to by its old name as the Ishibashi Museum of Art. Events such as special exhibitions, gallery talks, and workshops are also held in the museum.

It is a museum inside Ishibashi Bunka Center. The museum is now renamed to Kurume City Museum. The surrounding area is a very pleasant park, and even if you don’t enter the museum, it is worth going...

    Fukuoka Pref. Fukuokashichuouku Tenjin 5-2-1
A prefectural art museum located a 10-minute walk from Tenjin Station on the Fukuoka City Subway Kuko Line. Here visitors can view a variety of artwork with a focus on pieces by artists connected to Fukuoka. The museum regularly holds special exhibitions, workshops, and events. In addition, the museum has an art library and cafe and serves as a popular local gathering space.

I went for Ozumo exhibition. The exhibition itself was interesting. But the building of museum is, as many people commented, quite old, decrepit and less attractive. It needs definitely a renovation.
